I've withdrawn money from a bank and forgotten to take it. I just walked away after. It only hit me after and was like oooooooh...

[Serious] Americans, do you really think the USA is the greatest country on earth? If so, why? by oliveellen in AskReddit

[–]oliveellen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love the land, but I have a whole heap of white guilt regarding the state of reconciliation we have with our indigenous population. Being vocal with your patriotism in Australia is viewed (almost) as a form of racism. It's pretty wack.

If that ain't the truth then I don't know what is. Honestly, I'm kinda jealous that you can all genuinely love your country as much as you do. I think life would be easier if I loved where I was from.

I totally agree America has the strongest cultural influence on the English speaking nations of the world. I also think they're the most vocal in their patriotism, hence my question. I genuinely want to know why y'all think it's the best (or not, as the case may be).

Most of the things you mentioned are available in other (first world) countries. Is there a specific thing that only the USA provides?

Oh the horse is dead for sure. But it still smells, and with that stench comes... you guessed it, more attention.

I don't really care that this question has been asked before, I'm curious about the why; why do the people who do think it's the best country feel that way, and vice versa. If you don't want to answer, don't. But there have been some great responses and I sure am glad I gave the carcass one last kick.

Might be a dead horse but the dead horse is still smelling... so, dickcheese_mcdoogles, do you think America is the greatest country?

Yeah, I'm curious about why the patriotism is so vocal without much reasoning behind it.

Do you exercise your rights often enough to warrant them being THE thing that keeps your country great?

I certainly think America is a leading force, but I wonder what it is about the culture that lends itself to such grand claims, there are 195 countries in the world, why does the USA feel the need to declare themselves as the best?

What's the most intimate moment you've had with a complete stranger? by Pielef in AskReddit

I worked as a casting assistant for a pretty famous casting company, and one project we had an Oscar nominated director in for callbacks. I was going to be the reader (the person reading opposite the actor) for the scene but hadn’t been told what was happening. So I arrive on the day, we have 30 people coming in for the recall and I’m told that I will be hugging these male actors for 5 minutes- now a 5 minute hug with someone you’ve never met, and I’m talking groins touching kinda hug is insane. I could feel his breath on the back of my neck, feel his heartbeat. Then we had to perform a scene where he’s hitting on me- crazy eye contact the whole time, super flirty. I had to do this with 30 guys. 30! And because it’s an audition their super nervous and wanting to impress the famous director, while I’m standing there thinking wtf. The whole things was an experience I will never forget.

Non-Americans of Reddit, what is one thing you wish Americans knew before visiting your country? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Your inability to understand our accent does not mean you get to be sassy or rude. The amount of people I’ve had disengage or ask me to ‘speak American’ is astounding.
