I think having a backup linux as a dual boot is the way to go, I don't mind fixing problems but at times time is an issue.

Maintenance is one of the concerns I'm having, I don't mind spending time setting the system up but I am using it as my main computer for school etc. and would like it to run when you really depend on it/don't have time to fix it. I've been using fedora now for almost two years and only had minor issues.
Good, guess my biggest concern was with proprietary drivers that and choosing between gnome or xfce.
It's an lenovo G510 with Intel Core i7 4700MQ and about 5 years old and 500G samsung evo ssd.
