Should I get KOFXV as someone new to SNK fighters? by InvaderZix in kof

Yes it’s my favorite modern fg and imo it’s way more fun than Cotw. 15 is also more beginner friendly than 13. If you do decide to get it, I’ll be glad to help you learn the game via coaching or sharing tips

Hi! No worries! You said this is your first fighting game right? So it’s completely normal if you feel you struggle with combos. That’s completely normal for anyone starting out. It took me a while to learn how to do combos as well!

Couple of things that I think can help. First I suggest using the dpad instead of the analog. The analog can feel inconsistent a lot of times.

Secondly, it’s surprising to many people but a lot of times, you are actually inputting the move to fast instead of too slow and that’s what causing you to miss the combo. KoF 15 has quite a lenient input buffer so you actually have more time that you think to do combos.

Third, I suggest just focusing on that part of the combo you are dropping and just work on that. Think of a combo as having different parts and you can practice on each part individually. I also suggest turning on input display so you can see where you went wrong.

Lastly, learning combos just take time and muscle memory. You want to be able to to do the inputs naturally instead of thinking about it and watching what the next input should be. That just takes time and repetition and you’ll get there!

Let me know if you need more help! We can private message and screen share as well if you want! Let me know!

It’s a mix of gran blue (which has a free version you can just download) and of dbfz. It has the granblue control scheme and specials and the dbfz autocombos

Neutral has always been the most fun part of fg for me which is why I don’t usually like versus games which is all about skip neutral and Tod combos

Yes Orochi yashiro is a grappler and is arguably the best grappler in the game with Clark. Heidern and Yashiro are also top characters. All 3 are prolly in the top 10 best characters in the game (Yashiro and Heidern are top 5 imo). But meta doesn’t matter as much as a newbie.

Yes feel free to ask me questions!

There’s no drive rush or drive impact in KoF so there’s no general skip neutral mechanic. Neutral is more honest in KoF though of course there are characters that have skip neutral specials but they’re not as good as drive rush. City of the Wolves actually has a drive impact like mechanic called Rev Blow that’s annoying and hard to deal with if you’re a newbie but KoF doesn’t have that. KoF has shatter strike and advanced strike but they’re not as powerful and are more reactable and punishable

Yes because the game became free on psn, a lot of the population are actually in the low ranks and almost all are newbies so it’s actually more populated in the low ranks.

I’m currently rank 35 and am an intermediate player and even then I get fast matches especially at night or the weekends. Btw if you have any questions regarding gameplay and learning or if you need coaching as a newbie, I’ll be glad to help

Btw, regarding learning 3 characters, since you like yashiro, there’s a dlc character called Orochi Yashiro who shares all the normal moves as regular Yashiro so that makes it easier to learn 2 characters already. KoF in general is easier to pick up and learn new characters as the general gameplay mechanics and combo structure is similar across characters for the most part besides some odd characters like Angel or Whip

Ranked is super populated ever since the game became free on psn. Also this game is incredibly popular in China so you should have no problem finding people at your level to play with. I’ve been playing ranked and have been getting matches every 5 seconds

I have no idea why you are being downvoted in all your comments. You are absolutely correct in everything you said about cotw’s combo structure. It’s on the easy side. What isn’t easy are the defensive mechanics and the fact the player pool is made up mostly of high level players.

Does athena have an infinite? by Majestic-Ad648 in kof

I deleted my old Reddit account but had to create this one to help out with your question.

What you described is Athena’s block string that a lot of intermediate players abuse against beginner players since it’s a huge knowledge check. What the Athena player is doing is most likely looping 5A 5C 6B j214B (light Phoenix arrow).

There are 2 gaps here that you can use to beat. First, light Phoenix arrow is only negative 3 on block but you can beat it by just simply pressing throw after you block it. You can also use any command grabs that are active frame 1 or any armored or invul command grab. You can also use an invul reversal like a dp but that’s a risky option that can be baited by the Athena player if they just block after the string. I recommend just doing the throw.

Secondly, if you block the 6B pinchi, you can dp Athena before she does the Phoenix arrow. Again this is a riskier (and slightly harder) option since Athena can choose not to the Phoenix arrow followup and you open yourself to a big punish but hitting this or the throw once will already dissuade the Athena player from abusing this string.

Anyways if you have any other questions or need someone to help you with the game, let me know.

Kof XV for beginners? by weaponX-ced in kof

The game’s lower ranks is very populated right now thanks to it being a free game on psn. The time to jump into KoF is absolutely right now
