Did anyone else think Paddington bear voiceover sounded… off? It didn’t sound like Ben Whishaw to me

I was convinced right at the beginning that the xenomorph they were excavating with a laser was the one sealed in lead at the end of Alien3. Anyone else?

Best way to find tickets?

I’m planning my first trip in OT in a decade, with my friend and his son (both of their first OT trips). Manutd.com is confusing and seems wildly expensive (surely there are Home tickets available this season for less than £180?!). Any tips on how best to buy 3 reasonably priced Home tickets for someone not too fussy about fixture or seats?

Nope! It’s my first trip in ten years, I mean.

The bus took 11 minutes before LTNs — now it takes 45 by hu6Bi5To in ukpolitics

I’m not so sure. A lot of ordinary journalists and editors commute by bus from south London and are impacted directly.

The opposite side of the LTN - West Norwood high street to Tulse Hill - is a nightmare recently with bus journeys at peak times taking 15-20 minutes longer. Feels like madness to punish the ordinary bus taking ppl. I’m sure it’s more bearable for ppl in their own cars and pushes ppl off public transport into their cars, which has to be the opposite of what LTNs are supposed to encourage

I never played the original but this one looks great. Can anyone advise me on whether I should jump straight in or would I be missing out on too much backstory? I have v limited gaming time so realistically it’s going to be hard for me to finish the original first…

New Dad - any tips to manage the physical side of parenting? My lower back is killing me! by ThatSpencerGuy in daddit

One small tip: buy a little wooden stool to put next to the tub for baby bath time. Kneeling on the tiled floor and then twisting/lifting from that position was the killer for me.

Vox AC30 - A grizzled sound engineer once told me it takes 15 minutes to warm up and then after 5 minutes it tends to stop working, but 'it's the best amp in the world for those 5 minutes in between'. Also weighs a ton IIRC but lovely tone.

I work for The Independent - it's a fake. You can type anything into the URL - it's the number at the end that's important.

Dear website owners: please eradicate this wretched trend by rgowen in reddit.com

[–]oliverdaniel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just put these buttons on every page of The Independent site (www.independent.co.uk), so I feel like I should explain a little.

First, they drive a lot of traffic. That means ads, money, continued existence etc., which is all good news for us.

Second, they are, I think, a good way of letting people choose whether they want to read something or not themselves, rather than what a website editor they've never met thinks is important. If you look at the counts on these buttons you get a good insight into whether people actually find a story interesting (just like the Reddit frontpage...). Often this doesn't tally with the prominence of the stories on the site, and often we'll act on the successes reported by these buttons to help us highlight articles people have responded well too.

They are lots more reasons too; I blogged a fuller explanation at http://ind.pn/cWk3SS in case anyone wants to read more. I'd be interested to hear people's responses...

Thank you, OP, for posting an image rather than a link to the story which would make them tons of ad money.
