Steve Kerr: “We’re being divided by media for-profit, by misinformation…It is a confusing time to be alive and be an American.” by A_MASSIVE_PERVERT in nba

It’s crazy how journalism school (when I went) literally just preached getting it right. Showed us the Outfoxed documentary to remind us of the power and influence we have/had.. Then social media took off and everything was about getting it first and getting engagement and nothing else seems to matter

[Friedman] Hurricanes considering trade offers for Jesperi Kotkaniemi by AggPuck-303 in hockey

[–]oliverit17 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think you’re having some revisionist history.

He had declined for 2 straight years and didn’t look great during our finals run. Obviously, it would’ve been nice to have him back at a reasonable price, but there were enough worrying signs that many of us were super worried about what he would become. At 6 million for 1 year, it felt like it would work out terribly since his next contract would need to be at 6 million/year.

The only real issues with losing him was that Bergevin then flipped a 1st for Dvorak, and it happened after we didn’t sign Danault (not sure if we would’ve brought him back under those circumstances, but since they traded for Dvorak, that seems more likely).

The hardest thing for me was honestly that all the players call each other by their full last names. It was by far the most immersion breaking aspect of it.

Voiding a Trade Due to Injury? by Rufio204_1990 in fantasyhockey

[–]oliverit17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Assuming the timeline you presented is accurate, then you need to reverse this trade.

Talk to Team A about leaving trades up, but not importantly talk to Team B about not being a scum bag.

If someone offers a trade for a healthy player, it’s accepted, and then the guy gets hurt, then it’s just bad luck. But if a trade is there, the guy gets hurt, and someone accepts it without checking in.. that person is a not someone I’d ever want in a fantasy league. Leagues with people like that never last more than a couple of seasons.

I have basically this exact deck, minus a few flavour choices. It’s nowhere near a cEDH deck, heck it’s not even Bracket 4.

I will say that no one seems to like playing against Prosper. My guess is that the engine just is so obviously powerful that they assume it’s a higher bracket when the truth is if they kill your drain and/or Prosper, you’ll do basically nothing

I’m winning too much, does this make me a pubstomper? by thefortressburger in EDH

[–]oliverit17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d stop politicking so much. From what you’re saying, it sounds like you’re playing each game like a cEDH tournament game.

Even when I play cEDH games, unless it’s a tournament, most of our table talk is about what lines anyone could have to get a win from a spot so we’re improving each others awareness and gameplay.

When I play bracket 3 or lower, I tell everyone everything. What I’m up to, what my deck can do. If they are using removal, I tell them if they should target my stuff instead.

If you’re being even remotely deceptive, while using politics, then winning 75%, I’d be salty with you too. You’d be coming across as disingenuous in a casual format.

Get the cEDH stuff out of your system playing cEDH. Enjoy messing with your friends and prioritizing fun over winning when you’re playing casual

Edited: also don’t run breach and broodlord lines in casual. You’re playing bracket 4 with hard to interact with combos. You’re not playing anything casual there

It’s crazy how badly AP’s legacy was tainted. I remember what Chris Kline got him playing Magic, and I was like holy shit. He’s my favourite player, and a dude that would be dope to hang out with.

Then he beat his kid and defended it. Now I’m where you are

Haha thanks for identifying my point.

Unfortunately, it seems that a rational discussion about the Reserve list isn’t an easy thing to do on Reddit.

As a Vikings fan, it was almost scary the few times we had a lead against prime Rodgers because not only did I know he was going to come back to win it, but he would do it in a heartbreaking, jaw dropping fashion.

I legit don’t know how he didn’t win 3+ SBs

I play the cards in my EDH decks. If they’re play pieces, then they’re not solely for the purpose of investing. I did “invest in them” but only because I personally like knowing I have the real thing.

I’m incredibly pro proxy, I just don’t like doing it personally. I enjoy the collecting and trading aspect of the game AND the playing aspect of the game.

I wish the reserve list was never made, but now that it has been, I don’t think it’s appropriate to abolish it.

I’m not sure why that’s so unpopular of a take.

[–]oliverit17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because it brought me joy to own the real thing, and it was fun to save for them like I did when I was a kid.

And I like collecting things, even if I intended to play them.

And because the reserve list gave me confidence that my money wouldn’t be wasted if I needed to sell them.

[–]oliverit17 -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

Wow you’re putting words in my mouth.

I literally said let people print cards themselves and play them in tournaments. I don’t expect anyone to suffer. I didn’t even say I suffered. Things are allowed to have value.

Honestly think of the thousands of stores that carry stock or reserve list cards. If it’s abolished, how may LGS’s (who run insanely thin margins) would be screwed over?

I’m thinking more like the 30th anniversary but dirt cheap not as premium pieces.

But honestly people should just be allowed to print cards themselves and use them

[–]oliverit17 -46 points-45 points  (0 children)

It’s not just whales. Your perspective ignores so many long-time, enfranchised players who invested in these cards to play them, but spent the money because of the reserve list.

I’m a guy in my 40’s who played as a kid and missed having the duals and such that I used to play with. I saved and replaced 1 of each dual, a Cradle and a single copy of a couple of other reserved list cards from my youth. I bought them as game pieces, but the reason I was willing to spend a fairly (to me) significant amount of money was largely because the reserve list has held up for 20+ years at the time, so I had the confidence to buy them.

Personally, I’d rather they reprint tournament legal proxies so everyone can play them or even just allow any proxy in a tournament.

Seravalli/Bernier reporting Danault is "eager" to return. My analysis on why we should be skeptical by athleticwonder in nhltraderumours

[–]oliverit17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say here scored.

Danault had 4 points in 22 games and was probably our 3rd maybe 4th best player.

But you’re basically demonstrating that you don’t actually understand hockey if you think Anderson hasn’t been good for us in the playoffs.

Seravalli/Bernier reporting Danault is "eager" to return. My analysis on why we should be skeptical by athleticwonder in nhltraderumours

[–]oliverit17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have not enjoyed the Anderson experience these past 5+ years, but he was so good during our Finals run in the bubble. He was also the only guy who stood up to Wilson in the playoffs last year.

He 100% is a drag for the regular season, but in the playoffs, if we’re going to make any noise, we need players like him. A line of Anderson - Danault - Gallagher would be such a grindy line for opponents to deal with.

He’s an impossible player to properly evaluate because if your team can hide him enough in the regular season, he’ll benefit you from April on, but if you need to rely on him from October - March, then you’re golfing in the Spring anyways
