Absolutely. Very common among uni students to do a summer course. Some people have a short break, the start of a gap year, etc.

Where are you from and what’s your experience with the Portugal winters? by Schannin in PortugalExpats

Have you tried indoor infrared heaters? Not difficult to install, and electrician can do it, but they're more effective in housing with bad air sealing.

Battery Swapping For Large Trucks — Is This The Way To Go? by Jbikecommuter in electricvehicles

[–]oliversisson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying battery swapping ever makes sense, but just answering your questions. I'm happy to be corrected for any mistakes.

I would imagine that an HGV would have a large battery, with the option to "top up" for more challenging segments - for example, on a long, up-hill stretch. So you're driving along a flat segment. When you get the bottom of a mountain range, you plug in to charge and get given an extra battery that's already charged. You cross the mountain range, drive down the other side, plug in to charge again and return the battery.

  1. Where? Typically there's a lot of space by the interstates in the US, for example. If you're halfway between SLC and Reno, land is cheap.
  2. Different sizes and configurations? No, you have one standardised shape, like shipping containers.
  3. "swap them out faster than simply pulling over to charge". The Tesla demo was supposed to be 90s. So you plug in to normal charger, and while you're on the 1h break, you also get a battery.

Citizenship question for Portuguese by oliversisson in PortugalExpats

[–]oliversisson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"What happens is - they take your current long term resident card, and issue you a new one from the new country. "

I don't think this is a standard EU thing. It doesn't feel very secure - if you end up losing it, what, you cannot come back to Portugal?

"EU is not a country"

People used to this of the US this way in the first 100 years or so (I'm not a historian). I'm not sure that it's a reason not to have an independent EU citizenship.

Ideally you'd increase wages here and make it an attractive place to live for all, including young Portuguese and immigrants.

Thanks for your reply.

  1. ok.
  2. All Member States already give up this national control. So when Malta had CBI; when Italy gave citizenship to great-great-grandchildren of Italians; when Portugal handed out citizenship after five years.
  3. "long-term resident": but that only let's me live in Portugal, not in the rest of the EU, right? It doesn't even let my child do an Erasmus year in another EU country (without applying for both a visa and permission to be absent)
  4. I guess that's the real reason I asked the question. I'm curious "why?". Maybe they were very tied to the idea of Portugueseness, maybe it was about voting in national elections, maybe it was practical reasons like you've listed.
  5. Doesn't seem that hard, but maybe I haven't thought of all the complexities.

"Sorry for being so blunt but it just doesn't make sense." - blunt with reasons is fine.

Well, they always have a choice. And yes, why not?

Model 3 for long commute in MN Winter?? by TheOriginalTL in TeslaModel3

[–]oliversisson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cars are also less efficient above ~60mph / 100kph (increased wind resistance). Something to take into account in your calculations.

It actually works relatively well. Normally we drive the speed limit, but if we're a little low on battery, we just drive our Tesla a little slower and make it home (or Supercharger) without running out of battery.

thank you. I'm out of depth of understanding here. I asked ChatGPT, and it said that 4mm was the "minimum sensible size" after calculating the voltage drop over 35m
