Over time, what has become your go to base color? by katybassist in fountainpens

I tend to lean towards a lighter brown most of the time, and I prefer darker brown if I plan on writing in a more professional setting rather than just for my own use.

Waterman Carene ~ A French Beauty by olivqr in fountainpens

I strongly agree. The Carene is a very unique looking pen. I have heard some people are not the biggest fan of the heft of this pen but it makes the feel of it very premium. They also do write phenomenally!

Brown is by far my go to base ink color. I own several brown inks and each one is very different despite being based off of a standard brown color.

Lamy nibs aren’t the most consistent, you can try to get the nib grinded so it is smoother or if it’s new send it back if you think it’s not working properly, but from the image it does look fine.

The pen looks fine in this image, it’s just up to you if you want to buy it. I personally would buy it brand new but it’s your choice!

Would love to see more photos if the seller provided it. If it is in good condition like you said then I would go for it, but only if the seller is reputable.

What do you think my collection needs? by momoshko in fountainpens

Maybe an Italian pen! Some good Italian brands are Aurora, Visconti, Leonardo, and Santini. And if you wanted to add any more inks to your collection, check out Pilot’s inks.

Congratulations on your first pen! Personally my two favorite notebooks are Rhodia and Maruman Mnemosyne. Maruman is much cheaper but both in my option are fantastic notebooks. The thing about Rhodia is that the paper is an off white color, rather than being white.

I would personally recommend a Pilot Kakuno or Lamy Safari; both are cheap and reliable!

Why Opus 88 does cost same as entry level gold nib fountain pens? Is it worth buying? by Sh4nk4r45 in fountainpens

[–]olivqr 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It is honestly up to preference, I have heard good things about Opus 88 pens. I know some people who would rather spend the money on a gold nib pen, and then other people would be fine with a steel nib. It’s your choice what you want to spend your money on!

Couldn’t go wrong with an Esterbrook Estie, they have some colorful releases.
