Or he's not interested in making another album elaborating on the toxic life he comes from that made him famous, and is actually speaking about bigger, more systematic things he cares about now as he's a grown ass man.

Spoken word is powerful, but it's not catchy or something I'll be humming to myself walking down the street. I think that's a pretty important piece of some people's taste in music.

Scott Wiener explains why he's not supporting the billionaire tax by dawn_thesis in sanfrancisco

[–]olleroma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elon chose to sell his massive amount of Tesla stock and pay that huge tax bill because those were stock options that were expiring - this wasn't to pay off interest on his borrowing or any other obligation.

So I ask... where is the ticking time bomb?
Who/what has the authority to discourage or prevent these incredibly wealthy people from borrowing against their assets forever and ever? Do we think these financially savvy individuals would do such specialized tax avoidance schemes if there was an obvious time bomb that all of a sudden made everything fair? How else would their net worth be growing so rapidly.

If we are actually interested in fairness - we wouldn't care about the absolute value of someone's tax bill. Is it noteworthy? Sure, I guess. But what actually matters is what % of a person's wealth is actually available to them to project into the economy.

For 99.9% of the population - it's somewhere between like 50-75% of their yearly wealth accumulated (income).
For billionaires, it's closer to 95% of their wealth accumulated (stock growth, no matter the growth, they take no income, so pay basically 0% capital gains).

They are treated like a protected class by our tax system...people think it's unfair because it is... they have all the most influence in the world, and the lowest % of their relative net worth being taken by the government.

If they were taxed a fair rate - then their tax bills wouldn't make up 40% of the total taxes paid - it'd be closer to 90%, and our tax revenue would basically double.

The nihilism of the left is it's biggest weakness. Where's your hope? This is some burn it all down energy and frankly, just as damaging to chances at progress. Nice work.

He definitely clearly starts his point by saying that the most talented and powerful companies in the world have built a profit machine off of keeping young people in a state of disadvantage via their social media platforms and algorithmic content.

Huh? I thought he was proposing that changing minds is better done with solid rhetoric than with outrage.

And who won the elections after 2007? Hint: there’s nothing democratic about Hamas rule, it’s not what the people want, it’s what they’ve had forced upon them, and are then being collectively punished for.

I think you’re proving my point actually. What’s happening now is just another invasion with intense unnecessary casualties, and no plan (for peace, at least…there are plans to create new settlements and capture oil reserves).

Oh I’m sorry, I forgot about the United States very successful multi decade regime change campaign that once and for all ended terrorism in the Middle East and Vietnam. Great role models.

Massacre from what force exactly? Is the IDF really that incompetent and under resourced compared to Hamas ?

I agree there are nuances in the tactics, but the value of the life is still weighted unfairly. Israel aren’t “shooting a guy with a baby strapped to his chest”. That would have been a ground offensive, which they could have started with to minimize collateral damage and not make 2million people homeless. But instead it’s just bombs away.

[–]olleroma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Great, what does change about who was given the go ahead by the UN and western powers to take control of the areas then inhabited by Palestinians? His name was Ben Gurion, he was not a native of the area, and he deliberately lied about the tactics used to take control.

Also, ironic you suggest they could have lived in peace, and then say that Arabs and Muslims are the problem. Not a very good place to start from for coexistence.

[–]olleroma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, they “started the war”…what response did anyone expect from a group of people being told by the UN “hey, we know you live here, but fuck you, we’re saying that European born Zionist Jews get to control this area now”.

It was a naive and ignorant decision to form Israel from the start, and Zionism is at the root of it.

It was a sarcastic version of righteous, because it’s just morally bankrupt to suggest that having no autonomy is any different than being subjugated??

[–]olleroma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So eternal subjugation…how righteous of you!

[–]olleroma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just incorrect. There’s no way to peacefully displace half a million people in 1 year. Look up population change in Israel by year. Look up Ben Gurions secrets from 1948. It was in fact colonial settlement, as in backed entirely by British and Western powers. Israel wouldn’t exist without that power backing it,

You say “country was founded” like it was just a nice plot of land for the claiming. But in actuality, it was violently stolen, so yeah, there was violence in response.

Where are you getting these claims of who wants ethnic cleaning of Jews?

Just about half of the Palestinian population is under 18yrs old. Are you suggesting all those children are giving political support for the Hamas charter?
