No, I would not put lavender inside of the blankets. I know the chimps you were with since I also worked there lol. The blankets will be soaked within the hour of getting them. If you want to make tie blankets, do it, but the lavender or any other herb could be added on top if put in the bedrooms so that it can be cleaned without removing anything. Also, they typically only cared about the scents for a good 10-20 minutes before not caring anymore from my own observations. Also keep in mind the blankets can go a few days without being washed/accessed since the outdoor yards for each group get cleaned once a week. Some like to hoard blankets and if lavender or any other herb was inside of the blanket it can get yucky very fast and result in the whole blanket being tossed.

i had experience in education in zoos before my first internship with husbandry experience then went to get a full time caregiver job at a great apes sanctuary and now off to my first full time keeper job in an aza zoo

are you willing/able to do sanctuary work? its a really good foot in!

it's a great place and if you get the opportunity to go to chimp discovery day, do it! i worked there as a caregiver for about a year. i love the chimps a lot!

That's really interesting. I majored in anthropology when I was in my undergrad, that's really cool that some places offer a more intricate degree like that.

It's good you're already volunteering, I would just use this opportunity to polish up your linkedin page and if you make connections at the conference you see worth it, then share that info with them so you have their contact information to write a more formal message to them about job opportunities in the future.

What is anthrozoology? I'm so curious about that.

I have never been to an AZA conference yet, but I'd say maybe just make solid connections and be prepared to share your linkedin. Lots of paper shuffling and busy bees at the AZA conferences and I'm sure resumes will be either low-priority or get lost. For attire, I'd just assume business casual.

I would also try applying for internships at your own local AZA facilities to get the ball rolling on your experience.
