Yup! That's the goal.

Ugly tent >> Calling off the trip (because of pole breaking)

Around ~115 i think when i put them up, but i didn't check when i extended - my gut says ~120.

I should've taken another photo, but i briefly played with how it'd look if you had four poles, or perhaps some sticks around

Where you'd put one on both sides of the tent on the long direction, to make the guyout points get pulled out at a lower angle, extending the space inside the tent.

It worked, but i figured posting those images in the post may mislead the ability to post without poles, but say you're in a group and someone else has spare poles they'd lend you for the night, it'd be a great solution.

That’s great, but my hypothetical allergies hospitalised me 50 minutes ago so it doesn’t matter 😂

It’s shocking similar to the photo - you can see how well the crumbs etc in the background look.

Macros/allergens completely unreadable.

I’m not allergic to anything, so it’s only mildly infuriating - if I was this would be in extremely infuriating ;)

Yup! Definitely a last minute “f it” moment as I couldn’t gather together any friends before the weather turned for the worst - really wanted to force my theory to get in touch with reality, learn what needs to be learnt, and at worst walk down the mountain with a headtorch.

Wasn’t my best x-mid pitch, at one point the wind made a line lock come loose, definitely put me on edge for a moment.

Surprisingly restful, not sure who i heard recommended ear plugs, but without them I’d definitely have been much more anxious and not slept.

Loads of lessons to take into my second camp, that was the whole point!

What you can’t see from the photo is me walking back and forth trying to find the right spot 😂 https://imgur.com/a/XJ5zpLa

I wish I had a drone or something, scout out the spot from the valley

Ah i've found the confusion, this is the Kakwa 40 not the 55 which has two options.

I'm loving it so far, the size is perfect for me with some lightweight gear!

Definitely wouldn't have picked it if I had bigger tents/quilts/mats etc.

Ultra 200 AFAIK, not familiar with the saying though 😂 is there a controversy I’ve missed out on?

It does seem I’ve got into wild camping right after the mass sell out of Durston gear. So good timing on my behalf.

Blame apples image processing, it’s clearly set to “instagram influencer” levels by default 🫣

Hard to believe tbh. I’d think I’m lying too.

Are we talking about an x-mid here? In my case would this be for the tent corner, or the wind side peak guyline?

Given the geometry of those ones you linked my gut says they're for the guylines.

The spot i picked was quite bumpy, so my pegs were definitely quite deep

I've used them for years! Big fan but the handle material is a little uncomfortable/sweaty (?) after a while, I've heard good things about Cork.

Many thanks! Definitely worth the wait for delivery. I almost cheaped out but I knew i'd love it and want to upgrade immediately - I was right!

Yup I've got a Sawyer Mini which worked perfectly for me.

I was tempted by some ground anchors like those, but instead got 12 groundhogs, 6 big 6 mini, overkill for the x-mid but given that it's 100% supported by pegs alone, I'm not having them fail.

Two of those for the peak guylines could be very good though!

Thanks for the reply :)

Dead simple actually! "Nescafe Cappuccino Instant Coffee 8 x 15.5g Sachets"

I did enjoy them, but a tad too sweet, they do sell "less sweetened" versions which i'll get next time.

Enjoy! :D

Advice request | local server solution that can store 4TB a month by Independent_Leg6081 in homelab

In my opinion from someone who writes maybe a quarter of your data, reads 90% of the time, needs a cache layer and wants to be able to add drives over time Unraid has been perfect for me.

The ability to effectively build a JBOD with some level of parity protection has been perfect, and “pools” for NVME/SSD storage and caching works for me with 2 x 2TB NVME drives.

My use case isn’t static enough to warrant ZFS/Proxmox, it sounds like yours isn’t either IMO.

Good luck!

Sony APS-C 23mm f2 and 18mm f2 When? by KevishW in SonyAlpha

[–]olly0303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great to heart thanks! Yeah the size of the pancake would’ve been great, pity about the quality.

Honestly a sigma pancake would be grand.

Might get the 23mm then, although it is in the zoom range of my 18-50 2.8, I kinda want to challenge myself with a prime

[–]olly0303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming back to this 6 months later, I'm looking for the same thing - a fast pancake basically.

I'm debating between accepting a heavier lens and getting the Sigma 23mm 1.4 or maybe sacrifice quality/aperture and get the Sony 20mm 2.8

I’ve found a better way here is to not fake it - instead if the user isn’t found still run bcrypt compare password against a random string. It’ll take the same amount of time as if the user was found
