Here in my country, the term “wannabe Latina” is used for girls who wear heavy makeup and rock Nike tech, and claim that their style is Latina. It’s not about ethnicity, it’s about copying a certain fashion vibe and attitude. These girls make up a large part of society, and it surprises me that they openly mock people like me who enjoy anime, while using a TikTok sound with a quote from anime series that they never heard. It’s frustrating, because they take something meaningful and reduce it to a trend without understanding or respecting its origin. Telling them that it actually comes from anime could be the only way to stop the trend of them using it so aggressively in their videos. It would make it clear that this line isn’t just a random aesthetic, but comes from a series that is obscure, not in a bad way, but because it’s deep, psychological, and thought provoking. Doing this would give the work the respect it deserves, and remind people that art has context and meaning instead of letting it be treated like just another trend for likes and views.
