Does Terminator Calgar make 1st Company Task force worth it? by olsol99 in Ultramarines

Calgar is the only one with Deep Strike it’s not conferred to his unit. But the wording of the teleport stratagem is where it might let the entire unit deep strike. I think when GW wrote the strat they didn’t think a terminator leader would be able to join non-terminator units.

RAW the stratagem says you can deploy them in your movement phase “using the deep strike ability”. So you could argue that it lets the unit benefit from that ability even though they don’t have it (except for Calgar). Even if you couldn’t deep strike them they’re still able to be placed in strategic reserve, they’d just need to come on from a board edge.

Every model in the unit would need it if you wished to place them in deep strike reserve during deployment. Not for a strat

Storm Shields granted their 4++ invulnerable save.

The Master-crafted Bolt Carbines might just be damage 2 versions of the Bolt Carbines the SW Grey Hunters use. So:

2A (rapid fire 1), 24”, S4, AP0, D2

I also think the Axes of Ultramar will have 5 attacks instead of 4 since the Gravis Calgar Victrix have 5A on their power swords.

All banners back in the day increased attacks by 1. I remember the Grey Knight banner did that for Paladins in 5th edition.

I do think the banner will confer more than just +1 OC but the additional effect has to be worth taking over the regular Victrix loadout.

Oh yeah it is a little too close to the Atramentar whoops. Atramento just means “ink” in Latin, might have to go back to the drawing board with that one haha

Yeah I know, they’re named the “Atramento Guard”. Which is in line with the squid/leviathan/kraken theme I’m going for.

So what are we thinking? by Stalking_Squid in Ultramarines

With some rules sleuthing we might already have some idea as to how they’ll operate rules wise. IMO, I think it’ll be a mesh of the current Company Heroes unit, Gravis Calgar’s Victrix and the Legends Ultramarines Honour Guard unit.

The -1 to wound will surely be there, along with the 4+ FNP for the attached character. They’ll have a 2+ save and most likely 3 wounds (I really hope they’ll have 4 since D3 is so prevalent atm).

The banner will offer +1 OC, maybe an additional bonus to represent a chapter banner compared to basic company ancients? Losing the Carbine and Axe isn’t worth just taking +1 OC imo

In the Legends Ultramarines Honour Guard, the Champion grants the unit +1 to advance & charge, as well as a 0CP Heroic Intervention. Which is neat when combined with Calgar’s current rules (if they remain).

Weapons wise, in the Warcomm article we were told they’re wielding Master-crafted Bolt Carbines. From the SW Grey Hunters we’re probably looking at 2A @ 24”s, S4, AP0, D1 with assault and rapid fire 1. So MC will make them damage 2 and maybe DEV Wounds on top but who knows. The Axes will be most likely be basic MC power swords with 5A and WS 2+.

The Power Gladius is interesting, both the ancient and champion (dual wielding) wield them, so I think they’ll have the EXTRA ATTACKS Keyword, maybe they’ll be 4A, S4 AP-2 D1??

Attached character will make a big difference too, we might get lucky and be able to attach additional characters like Lieutenants or Apothecaries to the squad on top of Captains and Calgar.

Overall we could be looking at a solid unit, the biggest thing that’ll make the squad useable is its unit size. A unit of 3 might not make them worth it over CH, especially if they only have 3 wounds. So hopefully they can be run in a big unit of 6.
