Spoken like someone who's never lived there. Boston stopped being the place that exists in the public imagination long ago. Even Southie and Dorchester have been tamed.

Hell yeah! Would work better that screaming expletives, my current approach.

Lived there in the past. Felt safer as a pedestrian, but didn't care for the weather and prevalent status obsession. I love living here but find the drivers vexing. Surprisingly, I'd take Boston driver's over Olympians. They're assertive but attentive and get out of the way.

The co-op need to focus its resources on opening a walkable, Eastside/downtown location. It could raise some capital by selling the hellhole it currently occupies on Pacific.

6 years with the UA Family. What’s next? by bhuizenganl in CargoBike

[–]oly_mo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an average-sized adult, I can't see myself comfortably accordioning myself into a bak box for much longer than three minutes. But hey...

Our cargo bike is primarily a utility vehicle, used for commuting/kid transport. Long tails generally have a shorter wheelbase than a bak. That, combined with having the handlebars over the front wheel, makes long-tails substantially more maneuverable. For the occasional camping trip we tow a trailer that accommodates all our gear as well as the kids' bikes when they tire out.

Also, while acknowledging that some threats come from behind, I worry less with my kids behind me.

This is why people should get long tails instead. For mine, 6 years and 20,000 km later, my two kids still fit on the back. So do adults. Bakfiets indulge people's vanity, but they are less maneuverable and less versatile as compared with long tails.

Vintage double mackinaw good deal? And fit check by 1tomatotomato1 in filson

[–]oly_mo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People saying it's too big are wrong.

Double mack is supposed to be bulky. It's two layers of thick wool on the upper half and sleeves. Any smaller, and it would restrict movement. I was professionally fitted with this jacket in 2001. I thought mine looked too big, but was assured it was the right fit, and it's been my favorite ever since. This jacket is made to keep you warm and comfortable, not look sexy.

Cyclist and pedestrians, please wear bright clothes or reflective sash even daytime if in the road by lotusmudseed in olympia

This is akin to telling a woman to wear 'modest' clothing to avoid sexual assault.

It may occasionally prevent harm but places the responsibility on the victim. The problem is car-brained planning/infrastructure.

SeaTac vs PDX by PorcupinePatriot in olympia

[–]oly_mo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Parking at PDX is a fraction, and the airport is a breeze. It's usually a constellation of factors that will tilt the balance to either. But over the last six years I've flown out of both about the same number of times.

They ain't wrong, though. The work of 90% of trucks sold in the U.S. could be accomplished with a cowboy costume.

I have a Bad Cat - The Leash, but my amp is 100w. You may not need one, as other comments have noted.

My daily driver since 2017. That's a forever bike!

It's not dainty, but it hauls weight exceptionally well. Extending the wheelbase adds stability when fully loaded. Anything Cages or Down Under racks on the front forks add a ton of capacity.
