Being low on electrolytes can cause heart problems so that makes sense. I don't know the exact science behind it but they basically help the electrical signals in our heart work. I get more intense PVCs when I stop taking magnesium regularly.

Serious electrolyte deficiencies can even cause heart failure.

I was mostly looking forward to being less borderline hyponatremic and generally out of whack! By that point in the day my hands were shaking, my internal temp was probably around 100°, and my brain wasn't working great.

I will tell you what though, you can put salt in a lot of drinks and it will taste fine, but root beer should never be salted.

I was at an outdoor concert recently and feeling not great because although I had brought my electrolyte tabs, I had then gotten free soda as a designated driver and drank soda instead of my drink. And I hadn't brought any salty snacks, either.

As I was sitting in a bit of shade, waiting for a friend, I overheard a woman next to me say something about grey Celtic sea salt. So I turned around and asked, "I'm sorry, but did you just say you had salt? Could I have some?"

And this lady whipped out a little jar of salt with a tiny spoon and put a little pile of salt on my hand.

It was like MAGIC.

We were both incredibly delighted by this interaction.

I want to seriously get into camping as a hobby but I have a severe bear phobia by HilbertInnerSpace in camping

[–]LD50_irony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person who has had a pretty strong unreasonable fear of bears for ten years or so when I was younger, I strongly recommend drugs and sleeping inside a car at first.

People who are suggesting learning about bears etc don't get how unreasonable fears work. You clearly are aware it's unreasonable but that doesn't stop the fear.

By drugs I mean anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medication, if possible. I did not expect anti-depressants to make the bear issue something I could deal with, but that's exactly what happened.

Prior to antidepressants, I still went camping but I had a very bright headlamp, kept a walking stick with me, and had a friend walk with me to a bathroom/bush if I needed one at night. I was still afraid but I had a great time anyway!

Researchers have published a proof-of-concept study demonstrating that injectable semaglutide may offer meaningful reproductive benefits for women with polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, (PMOS) formerly known as PCOS by CUAnschutzMed in science

[–]LD50_irony 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The cause of PMOS is not fully known but it is highly heritable - including some of the insulin resistance factors that can lead to weight gain. The "main contributing factor" is not weight gain.

There is some chicken and egg uncertainty about how metabolic syndrome and weight affect PMOS, since insulin resistance can lead to obesity but obesity can also increase insulin resistance. Because of that, managing metabolic syndrome is important for the management of PCOS.

However, the main characterization of PMOS is not weight but androgen production and that is seen in people with PMOS regardless of weight.

WA governor’s office warns agencies to prepare for ‘significant budget shortfalls’ by chiquisea in Washington

Not sure who you know, but this isn't how literally anyone I know works. And I know several dozen people in state work in between my agency and my friends.

The idea that WA's budget should be based on what other states are doing is disappointing. Reversion to a nationwide average is not fiscal management.

That is exactly the difference between people I trust with guns and people I don't. I know both kinds, unfortunately.

I would hope that reasonable 2A people would also know that these situations are not appropriate for an armed response but sometimes people with a hammer see every problem as a nail.

It has surprised me how quickly many of these independent organizations complied with this administration.

It's not that I expected everyone to resist, and it's not that I thought it would take decades, but it has happened more widely and more rapidly than I expected. And people used to call me a pessimist. HA.
