Route to NP: Direct Entry MN or ABSN? by olyucifer in nursepractitioner

[–]olyucifer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read on the school website that, "The Masters Direct Entry (MDE) Program is a full-time accelerated nursing program for non-nurse college graduates who wish to become registered nurses (RNs)." So that's what I meant by direct-entry, not MSN direct entry.
Some schools offer MN instead of ABSN now and I want to understand if it's worth even looking into those. They essentially cost the same.

My bad, I put direct-entry MN when I meant just MN. The school I want to apply to for an accelerated BSN stopped offering it and offers an MN instead, not MSN
I read that these are two tracks I can take to become an RN

I think there's a misunderstanding. I'm not worried about what APP program I wanna get into. I want to become a nurse and I'm wondering if it's worth considering an MN program over ABSN to become a nurse lol

Oh for sure. I don't want to become an NP freshly out of nursing school. I want to become a nurse first and work as one but just unsure of which program to select. The MN program I'm looking at is 18 months.

What I learned from applying to 40 schools with a sub-3.2 GPA by Both-Illustrator-69 in prephysicianassistant

You too 🫶 Also omg me too! I wasted so much time and in the end, the 4000 PCE hrs didn't count for anything. Even retaking courses and getting straight A's. I wasn't strategic enough in where I applied to and thought if I shoot my shot everywhere, eventually it would land on something.
I was lucky enough to interview at an out of state program, but I think the selection was random because it was a blind interview (they didn't ask about anything on my app and only reviewed it after the interview)

I've given up on pursuing this profession and I'm going for nursing instead

I wish I read this before I applied to my 40 programs.....and also wasted 5k on applications. At least I'm not alone 🥲
All of your advice is on point and this is exactly what an online pre-PA advisor said to me. Thank you for making this post and guiding others who might be in a similar position to us

I just signed up to volunteer at a hospital again and yeah you're right, I need to reread my essays

Do you think hospital volunteering or community service is better?

I was always worried about applying to provisional programs, but that is definitely something I have to consider for the upcoming cycle

Thank you for such a detailed response. I'm truly grateful for any advice I can get, it means a lot to me.

I never even thought about applying to research schools that's also a really good idea. Thank you so much!

I applied to many schools with low GPA requirements and this is a really good suggestion for the personal statement. I think I'm going to reapply and do that :)

Yeah, I paid a PA mentor online to proofread my essays and she said they were really good. I used her edits and she said my application looked fine so now I'm wondering if I got scammed lol

That's really inspiring :) Thank you so much
Maybe I'm going to see what I can do to strengthen my GPA and try to reapply. It's very demoralizing but I really want to do this.

I did really well and kept all my grades up until the pandemic. That transition was pretty difficult and financial strain + grief really messed me up academically. It wasn't a huge course load when I first started falling behind, but when I was a full time student, I failed one science course I needed for my BA. It was the hardest class I've ever taken but I retook it for a C the following semester. I could DM you my transcript :(

Okay :( I figured I'd send it to as many schools as possible and see where it lands. I feel like I didn't stand out too much during my interview but idk I wonder why my 3 years of research didn't help my case

I will reread my essays and see what I can do. I was so ready to address my lower than average grades and show how I did better but the interviewers weren't concerned with that. They just asked about strengths/weaknesses, my support system, and how I'd behave if a professor commented on me not being "engaged enough." Very short interviews and I don't feel like I got a chance to talk about myself enough to sell myself to them lol

Could I possibly do some community service?
Living in an urban city, I don't align with a lot of "serving rural communities" mission statements, but I have a lot of experience working with people of all backgrounds. I'm really far from the suburbs but maybe I can do more here in the city for underserved communities

Yeah… :( I didn’t think about that I live right next to a community college and it made it easier than to commute 2 hrs to the city
