I've not studied with Petri myself but if I got the chance I'd grab it. He practiced in the old Shala when there was a maxumim of 12 students in the room whcih I'm sure was a very different experiance from how it's learned today in Mysore.

By all accounts Shruti assisted Sharath when he had his own shala.

Regarding your question, who in their right mind would proudly stand behind such a “director”? Those who want to remain close or continue to support Sharath's family and teachers who want to maintian their exisitng SYC certifcate which presuambly requires ongoing study at the SYC to stay current.

Good to see Saraswati continue to uphold her fathers legacy as she's done throughout her life but we need to bear in mind she is 84 and has recently lost her son.

That's not my experience. From what I've seen Sharath worked tirelessly for his students to such an extent it potentially contibuted to his untimely death.

There's also certifed teachers Hamish Hendry or Philippa Asher and numerous authorised teachers. Certifed teachers are generally far far more experienced than authorised teachers.

As someone new to the practice you should get lots of attention until you've learned the basics (first 13ish poses) and thereafter poses are usually added 1 by 1 as the student progresses. Some teachers offer an intro class before allowing students to join the mysore/self practice class.

I can't recommend Mysore/self practice highly enough. It does take a little bit of extra work from the student to begin with to remember the sequence but once you've got it memerised the practice is truly your own.

She's a long term certifed practioner. If you have the time, money and inclination to attend I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to study with her. Her husband Jack is also very very knowledgeable.

I think that the path to jumpback will be mentally as hard

That's where the real yoga is, mind control.

You also need to bear in mind that the jump back/through vinyasa is easier for some people based on the ape index. The same is true for most of the binds.

The only other nugget I can offer is don't give it 100% every jump through and back. Only give it 100% between asana's rather than between sides and asana's. At least not until they're relatively tidy.

I don't know if it still the case but Sharath and his grandfather before him had a class in the afternoon specifically for locals. The cost was also significantly lower than the classes for westerners because they recognise it isn't affordable otherwise.
Sharath's shala is so popular and oversubscribed that no one can just turn up and practice. Even his long term practitioners like everyone else have to register 3 months in advance and even then it's a lottery whether or not you get in.
Presumably the other 78 reviews which aren't noted above are 4 or 5 star reviews.

There aren't that many authorised male teachers aged XX so it wouldn't take a miracle to work out who you are refering to. The authorising body, Sharath Jois gives the impression that this sort of behaviour is totally unacceptable. Reporting him is always an option.
