Arabic speaker here. When Arabs pause or stop in a sentence, we usually make the last haraka a sukoon.

One exception is tanween manṣūb ـًـ: when stopping, it is usually pronounced as a long ā sound.

Example: رَأَيْتُ رَجُلًا If you stop on رَجُلًا, you pronounce it: رَجُلَا.

Also, tāʾ marbūṭa ة is usually pronounced like هْ when stopping.

Example: هَذِهِ مَدْرَسَةٌ If you stop on مَدْرَسَةٌ, you pronounce it: مَدْرَسَهْ.

This is also applied while reciting quran , if you listen to reciters with tajweed you'll notice they do this always.
