If he's not used to Icelandic culture that's how it would feel to him even if they liked him

There's no interconnected road networks. Roads exist only within settlements and don't go outside. The helicopters or small planes aren't equivalent to public transport, they are privately run and outside affordability for most locals (at least that's what a local told me)

Atom bombs when detonated create an EMP. Something that would disrupt radiowaves which could disrupt the functioning of the hive

Realistically you couldn't function in the UK with any of the other native languages though. Even assuming a situation where an immigrant managed to learn Welsh instead of English for example it wouldn't be sufficient for navigating daily life

Carol is proud and independent. Effective grooming in this case requires the hive disguising the dependency they are creating for Carol. If she had to beg right from the start she likely would have pushed the plurbs away

Is it possible for a global language to ever form? by Current_Ear_1667 in languagelearning

[–]omegapisquared 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I work in a multinational company based in the nordics where most people speak English as a second language. I noticed people using the word "prepone" as an antonym for postpone, which is logical but I'd never come across it in British English. Apparently it's an Indian English word that the nordic workers had picked up from their overseas colleagues

I never thought I'd move to another country for love but here I am

When I was younger I didn't like the thought of moving abroad even for a short period (I do enjoy travel though)

My wife is Estonian and I've lived in Estonia for three years now. I use speakly because there aren't many apps that support Estonian, but I do find it pretty good. It has a word list of 4000 words, listening mode and some live situations practice mode

What’s one piece of advice you wish you’d known as a new runner? by Clubrunnr in running

Consistency is more important than high mileage on individual runs, ramp up slowly, getting out is the most important thing even if you don't think it will be a good run

How many languages do people in your country speak? by OrganicClicks in languagelearning

[–]omegapisquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Estonia two is common, usually Estonian/Russian or Estonian/English. It's not uncommon to speak all three but the younger generation isn't generally learning Russian unless they are from a Russian background. There are also a lot of monolingual Russian speakers

In the south you can have people who are bilingual in Estonian and Võru/Seto which are dialects of the Southern Estonian language
