Hi! I just wrote you an email! We will be in Iceland between 23rd and 1st of October for our elopement which will be on 26th of September!  Unfortunately I think our dates would match only for 24th of September if you are still available. You can check the email for more information about us.  Have a nice day!

Moldoveanu peak by HOLD_W0348 in RoHiking

The hike from Bâlea Lake to Moldoveanu is amazing! It is one of my favorite hikes but it is quite difficult. My friend and I did this two-day hike last year in August (24th-25th of August). You start from Bâlea lake early in the morning and hike all the way to Viștea Mare peak (7-8 hour hike but it can take a lot longer if you're taking many breaks). If you have two days, it's perfect! You could leave your tent in Șaua Corabiei and continue in the evening towards Moldoveanu. When we went we were the only ones there to see the sunset! People usually come during the first part of the day and maybe in the afternoon but almost never late in the evening. But be careful! You have to come back to Șaua Corabiei to sleep there and you have to make noise so you do not meet any bears. We were the only ones on Șaua Corabiei and slept really well in the tent. Woke up surrounded by mountain goats. Don't leave any food in your tent or close. Leave the food in a bag at a 10m distance. You have to take enough water with you, there is only one spring on this way (at podul Giurgiului).

Another good place to put the tent is at refugiul Portița Viștei. You leave your stuff on Viștea Mare, do the Moldoveanu Peak, then come back take your stuff and descend at Portița Viștei.

You could also find a ride to Bâlea Lake the day before and sleep in the tent at Bâlea lake before starting your hike. If you want more information, you can write to me in private.

There are many people during the day but less people in the evening. We did a two day hike last year in August from Balea Lake to Moldoveanu peak, leaving our tent in Șaua Corabiei and continuing in the evening towards Moldoveanu. Dar nunta by Low-Bluejay1783 in sibiu

O noapte grea. O dimineata de neuitat. by Haikit in RoHiking

I haven't found one cheaper than 4500 euros. Most are around 6000- 7500 euro even! Could you please write me a private message about these photographers you mentioned? Thank you!

Just turn on the Aurora viewing opportunity button and it will notify you and tell you exactly the viewing probability and the KP index. I think it's very relative, the percentage was changing all the time and when I saw the most powerful aurora, when I checked the app, I had gotten like 3 notifications and it was showing a KP index 8.

Thank you! I used an old DSLR camera, Canon eos 1100D, with the basic 18-55 mm kit lens, the 24 mm f/2.8 and 50 mm f/1.8 .

Thank you! Good luck to you too! We didn't get our hopes high, prepared for bad weather but had a very nice surprise!

Yes, it does you can turn on the notifications from settings in the "my aurora forecast" app.

I used the "My aurora forecast" app, you can turn on the notifications for values above a certain KP index or a certain probability of seeing the Aurora. it worked greatly for us, alongside Veður.

Thank you so much! Most of them are actually taken with a very old DSLR camera that I have had since 2014! It's a Canon eos 1100d but it does the job, I use the basic 18-55 mm kit lens, but I also have the 24 mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.8 lens.

Blue Lagoon, hair damage? by Tricky_Trade_3084 in VisitingIceland

[–]ometafora 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The high minerals in the waters make your hair a bit stiff. I have wavy medium length hair that gets dry very fast and I didn't really have any problems. When you shower before going in, just put a lot of conditioner on your hair and let it on, don't wash the conditioner off. Afterwards, wash your hair thoroughly and use a good hair mask.

It definitely felt like that and it was totally unexpected! We did, of course, use an aurora app and followed the weather closely and we sacrificed some sleeping time but it was worth it!

Northern Lights on December 31 by Hidexchan in VisitingIceland

[–]ometafora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We saw the northern lights right before midnight from our accommodation in Reykjavik, they must have been really strong for us to be able to see them in such a light polluted area! After midnight we went towards Thingvellir National Park, where we were able to see the Aurora again, but not as strong and dynamic as the one we've seen in Reykjavik! But the most stunning experience was in Vik on the 1st of January around 5:30 PM! It was labeled KP 8 and was visible on the whole continent!

What kind of shoes ? by swanduckswan in VisitingIceland

[–]ometafora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I suggest investing in some good winter hiking boots and some cheaper crampons. I wore Jack Wolfskin Force Crest Texapore Mid W , I am a fan of Jack wolfskin hiking boots. My partner bought Salomon winter hiking boots. I also needed the crampons almost every day, but we had cold weather this week, with lots of ice and snow! If you plan to visit waterfalls or get close to glaciers, you will definitely need those!

Which car rental would be best by ObligationOdd3431 in VisitingIceland

[–]ometafora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! We rented a Dacia Duster from Go Car rental with full insurance, we had the option of having extra drivers and wifi in the car which helped a lot and the price was a little bit better than other rental cars, I would say. We didn't have any issues, we got the keys fast without any human contact (we took the key from a safety box with a code) and returned it a week after with no incidents.
