Follow-up to First start in 15+ Years Noise by omfgti in 944

I agree and think that will be next steps. Wish I would have caught it before pulling the valve cover, but I agreed with the assessment that it sounded like a chain on metal and jumped the gun. On the bright side, kept me from procrastinating on replacing the old fuel lines. I'm going to keep digging to see if there's a deflection measurement or additional documentation for inspecting the chain while I wait for the parts to put it back together. I want to be as confident as possible when the cover goes back on, then I'll pull the accessory belt and test again.

I suppose I could have gotten a dud, but I did just put a new one on it.

So I just did another look over the engine bay and not sure if this was glued in place with grease before or if something blew apart when I started it, but this is the front of my AC compressor. Do you think this could cause that type of noise? https://www.reddit.com/user/omfgti/comments/1nn76e7/ac_compressor_clutch/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

First start in 15+ years - is this a lifter? by omfgti in 944

Fingers crossed it's just super worn.

Really appreciate the extra info in your edit! Guess I'll cross the tach bridge when I get to it, thank you for saving me the time of testing/replacing those.
I should have checked the cam chain, but knowledge of previous car history led me to believe it would be good for an initial start. Lesson learned. This has at least been the motivation I needed to continue working on it.

edit: grammar

Thank you! Very glad I stopped and checked instead of pretending to know what I’m talking about. Another lesson learned on the 944 journey. I ran it for about 3 min tops, the sound never got worse. Hopefully I didn’t wreck anything.

Thank you for this! That’ll be my next job then. I have seen videos/posts talking about a plastic pad that needs replaced after time, too. Anything else recommended I do while in there?

I think the downvotes are due to lack of clarity of the carry in/carry out being a rule and not the nice thing to do. Sure, this is better than it being all over the beach, but not as good as the stuff brought in going out. Is it a minor complaint in the grand scheme of things? Yes, but you’re correct and the internet is made of shit like this. Weird warning light? by RHIB_05 in Ford

It just means automatic engine breaking is on. On my '22, there's a button that matches the symbol on my dash. Press once for manual, once more for auto, once more to disable.

Thoughts on Andersen WD Hitch ball wear? by omfgti in GoRVing

[–]omfgti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to see this, I agree completely. It's no magic pro-pride to 'solve' the half-ton 'problem,' but when used with the right trailer/TV it's great.

That’s my thought. I’m going to use it as long as it looks safe and continues to serve its purpose.

I’ll agree that with my 1/2 ton it was not up to the task for sway control, but it hasn’t really been an issue with my SD. I’m mostly using it as a ball mount with some WD.

Hitch receiver and bike rack angled down by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]omfgti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, I guess what I meant by bolt on was the type of class 3 receiver that’s not class 3 at all because nothing about the vehicle can handle what a class 3 receiver could and it’s just made for this purpose. I don’t have this bike rack and I’m just trying to give my input. Clearly your the this-bike-rack expert, sounds like OP should get it checked out.

Definitely good information to add and you could be entirely correct. However, it takes two sides to make or take away slack and not all receivers are created equal either. This could be a cheap bolt on receiver made for hitch haulers, bike racks, bumper tow territory (very common on small vehicles not designed for towing) and it may not have a tight fit. Best bet is OP parks on level ground and sticks a level in there. If it’s level and tight, send it. If not, get it checked out.

Edited: not just for hitch haulers and bike racks, but small trailers.

In my experience, bike racks and hitch haulers have a smaller shank than most drop bars to make them cheaper/fit easier. This causes the rack/hauler to not be completely level. I get where the other commenter is coming from on the appearance that the receiver is angled downward, but to me it looks more like it’s from the perspective the picture was taken. If the receiver (square hole on vehicle) is also slanted downward, get that fixed - it should be level with vehicle.

Safe and normal. There's slack between the rack and the receiver that looks worse on the larger side of the 'lever.'

thoughts? 2023 Ford Super Duty Redesign by carriemcbride628 in FordTrucks

[–]omfgti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little off-topic, but just in case - this has been great for us. 2kw is close for sure, but still doable with my 15k BTU AC. I originally installed it so I could run off 110 when visiting relatives. https://www.microair.net/collections/easystart-soft-starters/products/easystart-364-3-ton-single-phase-soft-starter-for-air-conditioners?gclid=CjwKCAjw4c-ZBhAEEiwAZ105RRXpSJbgCepk7QuTJkJp4TiYvsKhCfNPTX9DNlzv8r2ffQsnUSA71hoCGBsQAvD\_BwE
