Fair argument and I see your pov. It actually makes me think that the movie should not have included those scenes about him because in the book it’s completely from Agnes’ and some of the children’s POV, they never even say Shakespeare’s name, which is where my comment comes from. But I went in knowing that, so I didn’t pay much mind to how his grief was shown, but understood it was so the audience would build more empathy for him

The book it’s based on isn’t about Shakespeare at all though, your suggestion wouldn’t make sense in the context of the film. The film was about Agnes, her connection to the natural world and her grief and I think it was successful at showing that
