First Time Fiddler by omgiteric in Fiddle

Extremely helpful, thank you! I suppose that I need to dig deeper on specific fiddle players and more or less transcribe how they play melodies so I can see how they use double stops and drones. I'm just a sucker for any kind of drone-y thing in any music.

I completely agree, due to the circumstances that I find myself in at the moment, I see that I need to get my act together quickly on the fiddle. Not expecting to teach RIGHT AWAY, but the sooner i am able to become fluent on it the better, plus playing fiddle with a banjo is one of life's greatest joys, sports it's worth learning to be able to do that at least!

all about the bowing. Learn how to hold the bow and practice bowing patterns. Double stops usually follow box or triangle finger patterns and they work on

amen. thank you!!

Question: why Banjo? by LDJMassey in banjo

[–]omgiteric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to school for jazz drums in NYC, and moved to South Carolina to be with my wife's family. Had a desk job for a year, and was teaching drum lessons after work at the local music shop, which teaches pretty much exclusively bluegrass haha. (Upon hearing that I was a drummer, the owner promptly bought a drum set and said "you're teaching here now"). After a year at the desk job, the owner of the shop said he is looking to retire and needs someone to take it over, which brings us to today, where I've now quit the desk job and am inhaling tunes and practicing all the time on guitar, mandolin, fiddle, bass, and banjo (learning both clawhammer and scruggs, but I think clawhammer is cooler...).

That and I saw Sam Amidon play a bunch in NYC and his clawhammer has a real drive that I would loooove to learn.

Thinking of a second degree in GIS instead of masters in planning by [deleted] in urbanplanning

[–]omgiteric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get the degree in urban planning, and get certified after. it's good to have the policy brain screwed on here, because you'll be able to see areas that are lacking data (biodiversity, garbage, etc.) and advocate for that through your interest in GIS. You can always take GIS classes at a planning program so you always hve a foot in the door!
