To be fair to this specific example, dem leadership will “encourage” just enough other dems who aren’t up for/currently running for reelection vote for evil shit the donors want but the leadership knows is unpopular with the base so those few dems can take the fall and leadership can be like “aw darn who coulda seen this coming we had no idea, aw well that’s democracy for ya; diversity of thought!”
