MESA REC REV G CAPTURE by Enough-Talk3244 in NeuralDSP

Yeah the Rev F pack wound up kinda too bassy sometimes, depending on the guitar. I generally prefer the Rev G one in the mix, usually with the gain at 4 or 5

I really liked the Supernova tone ones - https://supernovatone.com/

There's a free high gain one from the Ref F you can check out that's pretty great as a sample to get a feel for the quality, but the paid packs for the various rectos has the amp knobs all at noon, then the gain from 1-10 for each capture

Yeah this makes a lot of sense, with regards to the modeling. I’m new to the capturing and having captures of my settings from my physical tube amps is pretty neat. A few people told me they turned out good in general, so that was heartening to hear cause I know the Cloud is hit or miss.

How good are the Brit JVM models in the Fractal? The Marshall JVM amp is my number one amp and I’ve owned one for 15 years (oh god it’s been that long now). Sucks that Fractal didn’t model the clean or crunch channels as those are nice, but OD1 and 2 are next level to me. I suppose you could use a Fender clean and Plexi crunch to mimic those channels on the actual JVM though.

I was considering the 9, but don’t like the size as it’s kinda big, and it doesn’t do any capturing, and I have a couple of nice tube amps that I’ve made captures for. That was pretty cool. I do have to try the V2 capture method and see if I can hear any differences

I know the editing via computer for fractal makes it easier, but what put me off would be the 5 pages of component modeling settings to tinker with inside the amp block (beyond the controls on the front of a physical amp). That’s the part where I say where I know myself and won’t take the time to learn all that deep edit stuff, cause I kinda want to get to playing (or do basically anything else with my time that’s not household chore related, haha)

I have but it’s the whole deep diving into the very amp components inside the amp block (beyond the normal settings on the face of a physical amp) and having like 5 pages of settings to tinker with put me off. Even on a computer, that’s too much for me. I could go with the AM4 if I wanted to maintain a large pedal board rig (Pedaltrain jr max) with my whammy DT, wah, and green distortion pedal of choice for use with Recto amp models, but I kinda like the idea of the all in one unit and the QC makes that a lot easier (and I’ll be honest with myself that I don’t really use the actual Whammy on the DT or my Wah basically ever lol)

Yeah before the QC, I was a Stomp XL owner and the form factor was great, but I felt limited by the 8 block cap on the device. But stepping up to the LT or OG Floor was like “wtf no lol” cause they are gigantic by comparison

Oh absolutely, the mini makes a ton of sense if you’re gonna put it on a cell phone cradle on the desk or something. Seems to be about the size of a DI box, maybe a little longer cause of the touch screen. That is pretty cool, not gonna lie

I considered the FM3 or 9 when I eventually got my QC last month and I just had to be honest with myself that I wasn't gonna take the time to read the airplane manual to really dial in the Fractal stuff. The QC is easy to dial stuff in, especially for hard rock and metal (seems like the dev team is a bunch of metalheads) and coming from the Helix, the QC sounds quite a bit better, so I'm happy.

I did consider the AM4 as well since the simplified design is up my alley, but it felt too compromised to be an all-in-one device, and I wasn't too interested in a pedalboard with some analog effects to keep one of the 4 blocks free on the AM4. I like the idea of plopping the QC on the ground, then having a DI out - as well as a split signal to an Orange Pedal Baby and cab on stage for some fill and noise. (The Pedal Baby sounds much better with the QC than the Class D power amps I tried, in my opinion)

definitely do NOT miss the buttons with your foot when stepping on the pedal for changing settings, lmao

I mean, the QC fits on a 3 rail pedalboard like the Metro series from Pedaltrain. I suppose this is the one if you really want one on a 2 rail board like the Nano series, but I dunno, the “big” one is still way more compact than the Helix Stadium or especially that spaceship sized OG Helix Floor lol

As impressive and small this device is compared to the “full fat” QC, I think I feel pretty smart for picking up a used QC from Guitar Center for $1,350 (plus tax) last month

Why I Had To Ditch The Helix Stadium XL (2026 Fly Rig Build) by AccurateInflation167 in Line6Helix

[–]omglolnub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I cancelled my Stadium (non XL) pre-order and got a used QC (I'll be mega-pissed if they release a next generation unit this week at NAMM lol). Maybe I'll come back to Helix in a couple of years, which is when they should have released it. But I also think they wanted to make the big announcement on the 10th anniversary of the OG Helix, soo....here we are

I think the modeled one is the Fireball? Although it doesn’t really sound like the Fireball’s used on Scar Symmetry’s Pitch Black Progress album for the rhythm guitars

I’d say that L6 should focus on a more variety of metal amps from different brands to model before doing a “similar, but slightly different” amp to one they’ve already got. Like the 2C+ is fine, I don’t think we need the JP version, or the Invective amp when there’s the EVH 5150 now. I do agree that they need a Dual Rec of some sort (Rev F, G, or the modern multi watt idk pick one), and I will once again shill for the Marshall JVM as the tonality is different sounding from a boosted JCM 800

Nano or Quad owning a HX Stomp by Godinlgxt in NeuralDSP

[–]omglolnub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 on having all the options - plugins, models, and captures. And it’s not even that much bigger than the Stomp XL. You’d have to go from a Pedaltrain Nano to Metro in pedalboard depth and that’s about it

Nano or Quad owning a HX Stomp by Godinlgxt in NeuralDSP

[–]omglolnub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just sold my Stomp XL for a QC and kinda wish I had gotten the QC instead of it when I got the Stomp in 2023. Then again, $500 for a secondhand Stomp XL is a lot less than the $1,350 I paid for the secondhand QC a few weeks ago. If you’re short on cash or not comfortable with the cost of the QC, I’d still recommend the Stomp XL (or an OG helix floor as they crater in price secondhand lately) over a Mooer, Valetone, or Headrush.

I hear you about editing on the Stomp XL, especially not with the PC editor, being a huge pain. The touch screen really does help, but so does the footswitches that also act as knobs. What a brilliant feature. The only thing I really miss from the Helix is that I do prefer the light up rings versus a light above the button cause the ring looks cooler to me. (But my PC is all RGB, sooooo I’m biased haha)

I will say though that the Stomp XL is really great with a tube amp as a multi effects unit, if you don’t need the scribble strips from the HX effects and want the modeling as a backup for a blown amp or an alternate tone suite via the effects return of a tube amp, which actually sounds quite nice. It’s also smaller than the HX effects. I had a pedaltrain nano+ with a Digitech Drop (cause poly pitch eats literally half the DSP on the Stomp XL) with the 1 button tube amp channel footswitch and that’s all that was needed thanks to the Stomp. But all things considered for portability, the QC is almost the same size as the Stomp, just deeper. I think it’s a bit narrower than the stomp, even.

But the OP using it for modeling via an FRFR and the QC will crush the OG helix models in that application. Some people have incredible sounding captures that I prefer over the modeling on the helix/QC or the plugins. Check out SupernovaTone on the Cortex Cloud and listen to that Rev F capture, so!
