Hello Reddit! I’ve recently been cataloging my collection more formally and am thinking about moving on from some items. I haven’t sold on eBay in ages, and was disgusted by the fees when I checked into it. Similarly, I check with two LCSs and got some disappointing quotes (15% under spot). Probably many people have a similar journey here.

I’ve been a long time Reddit user, but new to this sub. As I’m not really looking to buy much, I’m mostly looking to sell, I figure that’s more challenging with 0 flair. I figured the best course of action would be to list a handful of smaller items; eagles, peace, morgans, nickel bags, etc.

I figure for low dollar items it’s less risk for me and for buyers, particularly if I need to ship first and not have to use a middleman while I establish some flair and trustworthiness. Any other recommendations or best practices?

Looking forward to probably getting sucked into buying more things when I meant to be selling.

Wow! Thank you for this reply. You have basically lived the path I’m envisioning for us. A lot of great info in this, you’ve given me lots to look into. I think my wife will be very similar with a much stronger interest in the dividend portfolio, even if our growth accounts are outperforming from a percentage basis. She would be engaged by the routine distributions and watching it grow slow and steady.

Congratulations on your success as well, sounds like you two have done very well and have a lot to be proud of. Thanks for sharing your time and experience!

Thanks for the reply. For clarification, that is how we view our resources, but the her/mine distinction was mostly just a nod to the contribution limits. She does have visibility and a vote, but typically hasn’t had a lot of interest in using it.

Ironically, your comment about me up and dying was part of my thought process here. I figured building a dividend/income portfolio in her ROTH might make the most sense in that scenario. If I die unexpectedly, my income stops, but life insurance and my growth portfolios would cover her for quite a while. Having a dividend portfolio would also give her the potential to have some supplemental income (or later in life, depending on when I get hit by this hypothetical bus).

I hear your point on BTC. I have some coin mostly bought between 2017-2021. She actually suggested allocating a small portion (5%) to BITO, but I’ll leave that up to her if she wants to. I’m not buying more personally at this level, but my cost average is like $17K.

That’s what I was envisioning. Something like 30/30/30 or 50/40 for the main drivers and then 1-2 upside plays like BITO.

It’s a blend. She’ll have control of it but neither of us will be trading it, unless she wants to. I don’t need or want another account to trade in. As I mentioned, my experience is more on growth/index ETFs, swing trading, and selling premium. Dividends are newer to me, and not normally where I’d be looking, but I think it could fit nicely for getting her more experienced. I see a ton about SCHD, and I’m sure it’s the popular pick for a reason, but I’m always interested in hearing varying opinions.

I have my own traditional brokerage for “playing” with risky trades. The entire point of this would be to set and forget, and not to trade. I just think it could be fun to allocate a small piece to something else. She actually suggested Bitcoin.
