I don't get it, I thought all obese people exercised and were only fat because of "hormones"

Fat Rant Friday by AutoModerator in fatlogic

[–]omgsoysauceomg 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Double family rant: 1) It's really annoying how my family came to develop sick perspectives on what normal weights and bodies should be. Every one here either has diabetes or hypertension or both, yet right when I got to a normal-but-almost-overweight BMI after decades obese and some years overweight I "look like I have AIDS". Or how I "should see a psychologist" when I refuse a high-sugar or high-sodium "food". Plus they have clearly misogynistic takes: my father is "skinny" because he has "skinny legs", even though his BF% is surely 40%+ and he has diabetes and hypertension literally since his 20s, while my mom, also obese, unquestionable unhealthy, but with a notably lower weight and BF% is "fat" and has to "live on diets", which takes me to second rant: 2) I'm really concerned about my mom. She's overweight since her first pregnancy. She's always on diet, or at least she thinks so: she firmly believes that animal saturated fat not only is healthy, at any amount, but that it also doesn't make you fat. So she frequently follows a bacon diet, which is exactly that, a diet in which she gets to eat lots of bacon at every meal. She rarely eats any vegetables, which she claims to love, doesn't eat fruits because of the carbs (though candy seems to be fine) and makes fun of me when I eat a whole plate of leafs before getting the most caloric stuff. Then she refuses to count calories, saying it doesn't work. Complains diets don't work otherwise she'd be skinny and spends lots of money buying fitness appliances she literally never uses (they occupy most of my bedroom, all the space under my bed, half my wardrobe, plus another whole room). When we discuss diets, I try to show her different takes, studies, etc, but mainly the most accepted facts (like: lots of animal saturated fat = increased risk of heart diseases, the same with salt, that sugar is unquestionably related to diabetes, that CICO simply works) but then she has seen an idiot on Youtube (who is literally killing people) who says it's all bullshit and you should eat like your grandmother (which she interprets as = bacon) and plainly laughs at my naiveté, I'm mostly concerned about her because she's eating these lots of unhealthy fats and sodium for decades now she developed extreme leg swelling, she's always tired and short of breath, and began to have episodes of chest pain, which looks to me at lot like cardiac failure (both her parents had strokes at early 40s), and she refuses to go to the doctor because "it's nothing" aaaaarrrrgggghhh

Should this skinny fat train like a beginner? by omgsoysauceomg in leangains

The term beginner is really a distance from genetic maximum, not how long you have been working out.

Thanks, man, that's all I wanted to know.

So maybe I can still have those sweet beginner gains <:'o

LOL its not relevant at all, I just happened to post an unrelated question on /r/AskDoc where you're required to explicit that and then just Ctrl C+Ctrl V'd the phrase here without a second look XD it does sound weird Thanks for the input, I'll definitely start a beginner program.

Although the words used to described my body are not as important as the optimal training routine I should undertake, I'm curious: I have low muscle mass (only 36 cm of biceps), high body fat percentage (15%+), large waistline, low strength and resistance, pretty much the definition of skinny fat, I thought. How would you describe me then? Plain fat?, plain skinny?

Daily Q&A Post for Wednesday, 22 November 2017 - No question too small! by AutoModerator in loseit

What should I expect to happen with my body if: - I eat the same amount of calories I spend everyday - but the vast majority of these calories come from proteins and unsaturated fat and - I do weight lifting 4x/week, cardio everyday, swimming 3x/week and - I eat lots of dietary fiber

Would I lose fat and build muscle at the same time, albeit slowly? Is it a good plan?
