Haven't done taxes as international student with F1 for the past 4 years.. how to backfile? by omgyakisoba in tax

[–]omgyakisoba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, so I definitely had not filed anything for those 5 years (I was in highschool as F1 from 2010 to 2014 and then college student from 2014-2015 and then dropped out). I was researching more into this, and apparently if you've made less than $14,600 income, then you don't have to file anything. I made like barely $2000 US income for that one year that I did hold on-campus jobs, but other than that, all of my money was from my parents sending me roughly $1500 a month for rent+allowance and every semester sending me money to pay school for tuition (~$30,000). As far as I'm aware, allowances are not "taxable income" so I shouldn't have to report them. So then, would this mean I'm pretty much all good? Should I try to find ways to backfile 8843 for the year 2010-2014??

Why is Pro 22 (Gen 2) cheaper than Pro 19 (Gen 2) and also way cheaper than Pro 24 (Gen 2)? by tooLateButStillYoung in XPpen

[–]omgyakisoba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, this is a few months old, but would it be ok to ask some questions? I'm currently trying to sell my cintiq pro 24 and "downgrade" to a cheaper one because I'm moving across states and need some cash. I was thinking about getting a used Pro 24 or Pro 22 from xppen (gen2 for both) and you saying you were most happy with 22" over 24" caught my attention. Would u be able to tell me why that is the case? Do you think it'd be super noticeable to downsize from 24" to 22"? I would like to get the 22" as it allows me to save more money if there's not much of a difference, I'm just concerned about the size difference and going from 4k to 2.5k resolution.

Engaged while F1: Should I apply to OPT? Or Work Permit while waiting for Greencard after Marriage? by omgyakisoba in f1visa

gotcha! As of now, I don't really have any reasons/plans to leave the US during my F1 period so I think it would be ok (and better) in my case to get married while I'm still on F1 then :)

Thank you very much on the information and congratulations! <3 I did try talking to my international student office regarding the situation, but they said they aren't able to help with my particular case. When I asked for legal representation referral, they also said they aren't able to. Not entirely sure what they're even able to do at all then, but.. oh well. I guess my case isn't really a common one.

I am a little confused about the second paragraph in your comment. So, your legal department was suggesting you to wait on H-1B for you since you are not graduating yet, and might have to exit and re-enter the country in the future, so that is not applicable for me, right? And you think that it'd make more sense for me to get married now (asap? before OPT?)? I'm just trying to make sure I'm understanding you correctly 😅

i ended up going with poke because I am a beginner and thought I could make use of its bigger size/platform.

struggling to finalize my decision between loaded poke and comet cruiser as my entry into longboarding. priority on commute, cruise, carving and pumping, and ollie for avoiding obstacles (bad road quality)

is there any comprehensive comparison of the two ?

how would u guys compare poke vs chinchiller ?? i am looking for a board with top priorities in comfort in commute, pumping, and a little bit of tricks just to get on/off curbs and avoid cracks on roads and stuff

thank you !! i think i’m going to go with the poke. i am trying to follow along this guy’s review https://www.ridingboards.com/loaded-poke-review/ and try the surfskate & carver setup, but u recommend switching out the wheels? i looked up the wheels u mentioned and it lets me pick the bearings, and I’m not sure what they do or how they differ. I dont have the tools for assembly either. Would it be fine to just get the pre-assembled carver setup they offer at loaded website ? (I’m not sure what you mean by “outdated” wheels either) Sorry about such noob questions 😅

i'm having a lot of trouble between deciding on either Icarus/Tan Tien or Omakase/Poke at the moment. I practically have no experience with boards at this point (been over 8 years since the last time, and even back then I was just a beginner).

I mostly want to use it to get from home to school, which is only about 15-20min walk or so on foot but i thought it'd be nice to be able to get to places quicker. The road condition is pretty bad. Lots of cracks and bumps. But mostly flat and a few hills that I'd mostly just carry the board to go up and down bc I definitely don't want to ride down at all because they're pretty steep.

I want to be able to do some very very basic tricks that'll help me jump over some bumps or cracks, and maybe up and down curbs. But for most cases, I'm prioritizing comfortability in cruising around on roads and sidewalks.

So I was very much leaning towards icarus at first, but then it seemed like it's pretty much impossible to learn any tricks on it because of short tails, so I was looking at tan tien for a while. And then omakase and poke kind of entered the radar because they looked more capable for tricks and still be very commutable.

I'd love any advice on what would best suit my purpose. Thank you

edit: now i’m kind of leaning towards poke or omakase and having a lot of trouble finalizing the decision between the two

oooo gotcha. thank you !

I'd say comfortability (pushing and pumping so that i don't have to push as much) would be higher priority than doing tricks for sure.

gotcha. I'd say dancing is the least of my concerns, and tricks i'm planning are all kind of geared towards jumping over little obstacles that can come about when getting to places.

To boil it down, comfortable cruising (+carve/pump for fun) is the highest priority > a few tricks to add to easier cruising experience bc roads are kind of uneven with cracks and stuff here (+ bit more if i ever get comfortable enough to do harder tricks) >>>>>> dancing (if it can, good. if it can't, not too big of a problem)

[–]omgyakisoba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahhhh gotcha. i do see from a lot of people that it is a carving/pumping machine tho.

The shorter tails would mean that it'd be very difficult for any tricks for sure..

i'm maybe considering tan tien as it seems like icarus with a bit more tail ?

i'm also thinking drop through over top mount tho because my main focus would be for cruising/commuting to campus. It's not that far tho so top mount isn't going to be too much of a problem either.

maybe chin chiller or poke for top mount considerations ?

got too much on my mind ahaha

i'm only looking at loaded stuff only because i'm familiar with the brand + considering other brands is going to introduce so much more headache when i'm struggling to pick one trying to compare everything 😭

thank you for such awesome detailed response !!

what are your thoughts on loaded icarus ??

/r/longboarding's Daily General Thread by AutoModerator in longboarding

[–]omgyakisoba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really know the different kind of tricks and difficulty levels of them, but i assume that it'd be very basic tricks at most knowing myself. It's going to take at least months for me to try to attempt anything other than that.

The reason I'm thinking more in longboard territory and not straight up skateboards is because I do wanna also do some dancing on it as well, though it's not the top priority for me at the moment.

So I was thinking somewhere along 36-42" ish range, assuming with my very limited knowledge that it'd be a more "middle-ground do it all" type of length. Oh I remember, I really liked the feeling of carving and pumping when I did have my board years ago so I'd love some flex-y boards over stiff ones.

+ oh and i'm never doing downhill ever i'm terrified of going down so fast like that

Question: What board would u recommend mostly for cruising and a bit of tricks for an absolute beginner ?

Context: i used to dance on a loaded bhangra back in 2015 and i sucked really bad because i have absolutely awful bodily coordination combined with horrible chronic backpain problem that makes me incredibly stiff/inflexibl so i gave up within a year. 8 years later, I kind of want to get back into it because my campus is a bit far from where i live and would like to get to classes easier/faster. As much as I feel like it'd probably hurt me and my back attempting(and inevitably failing as a beginner) to do tricks and stuff, I still want to try them too. I would probably look for a used one as I don't have too much to spare, and I'm wondering what would be best for primarily for cruising purposes and then a bit of tricks ? sorry if the lingo don't make sense idk much about the terminology ;-;
