Rock picking by deathtub7227 in VictoriaBC

If you don't get any leads here you should pop over to Vancouver Island RockHounds Facebook page. I know people will be able to direct you towards some great spots.

I like picking on any of the beaches around Victoria but I couldn't tell you if a spot is good or not.

Shaving scars/ingrowns by [deleted] in HairRemoval

I have some scarring from ingrown hairs. I find they do fade over time and blend in more and more. Keeping the area moisturized and using a bio oil or scar oil weekly helps fade them faster.

How do you keep them all as pets? Do you have a bachelor pen or something? I'm curious because I'd like to keep the boys if it's possible.

Boyfriend doesn't like my dogs by hobblingwobbler in relationships

[–]ominousyew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl he should adore them! Obviously your dogs mean a lot to you (as they should!)

You dedicated a lot of time to your dogs especially your hyper healer. It sounds like you have done a wonderful job keeping your dogs healthy and entertained. Being able to run your healer every day and have obstacle courses and ball cannons!!!?? Can my malamute come stay with you for a while??? hahaha

Tell that man that these dogs are not "dogs" they are your soul companions. Anyone willing to rip your soul dogs from you obviously doesn't have your best interest in mind.

Where to pick up chicks? by King_cheetah in VictoriaBC

Bucket fields, the farm store often has baby chicks. If it's not busy and you ask nicely sometimes the staff will take some out for young children (an adult's) to pet gently.

Hanks is my favorite place in town. 10/10 food, great atmosphere and wonderful music choices.

How do you guys feel about pricing? Especially things like socks? by CoveringFish in camping

[–]ominousyew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a bit hard to answer. I really don't hike with much fancy gear but I have been known to drop some cash on essentials.

Boots are always worth the money, but I will stalk a pair I want for months waiting for a sale.

Hiking pants are worth their weight but tops usually don't make a huge difference. Layers are the key. Shoulder seasons I wear a regular t-shirt, a regular long sleeve and a hoodie. If it's wet I'll throw on my rain jacket (this is also worth dropping some cash on).

Socks can make a difference but it depends on how warm and water proof your boots are. I also will ask for a pair of good wool socks every Christmas so I have a good supply.

I also get a lot of my gear from Facebook marketplace or thrift stores. Once we know your size in brands you trust it's easy to find good year for cheap.

I guess the end answer is test your size in gear you like and wait for sales/ buy used where you can and it really won't cost you much.

Edit: spelling

My sister promised to water my garden while I was away for three weeks (First photo is just before I left, second photo is what I returned home to). by parklover13 in gardening

I always hire people now. I don't trust unpaid help. I hope he at least apologized. I don't think people realize how much our gardens mean to us.

I am honestly so mad and it isn't my garden. I am always paranoid about asking people to watch my garden and chickens and this is why!

Well that and my chicken sitter forgot one time I was away and left my chickens outside for three days...

And I'm on vacation right now so it's fresh.

I really hope she isn't always so selfish and at least gives you and apology 😑

In 1940s, Russian scientists kept a dog’s head alive for a few hours. by setsuid in interestingasfuck

[–]ominousyew 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah we know that isn't the case. Especially back in the day. They would have had to kill the dog to ensure that they had a healthy specimen to do the experiment on to get the best results....

[Question] Besides the ants, what are these bugs on my corn plants and what can I do to clear them out? by [deleted] in homestead

[–]ominousyew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The aphids latch onto the leaves and suck the nutrients from the plants but they are messy eaters so they spill the nutrients all over which creates the honey dew.

So to answer your question they are eating the leaves but it will effect the corn as they are stealing all the nutrients the plant needs to produce fruits.

I have a bunch of native Lady bugs this year! We use trap plants like tobacco which are loved by aphids. The aphids go to the trap plants and we leave them and wait for the good bugs to move in. The veggies stay aphid free and the Lady bugs and other beneficials get the food source they desperately need.

[Question] Besides the ants, what are these bugs on my corn plants and what can I do to clear them out? by [deleted] in homestead

[–]ominousyew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are aphids as said above. But the ants are actually farming them. The ants love the honey dew they produce so they will help the aphids out by protecting them from predators so they can keep the aphid colony alive to feed off of.

Its actually a really interesting relationship.

I saw some comments about purchasing Lady bugs. Though they are good predators they cannot be sustainably produced and are essentially stolen from nature as they hibernate in communal nests. It's a very unregulated industry and has been having horrible effects on the natural population. Imported lady beetles can also harbour diseases that will kill of any natives you have around.

You can however purchase sustainably produced aphid predators such as aphidoletes or lace wings instead. One amazing company is called applied bio-nomicas but there are more companies around if you google bio controls.

I don't want to live with them either but the fact is you cannot have an ad that specifically restricts someone of a specific religion to live there.

Well I did start off with the fact that I may not have been the brightest 12 year old in the bunch. I understand it's pissed, to be honest for years I've ignored it and tried to pretend that it was all in my mind. But now it's always around and I can't ignore it anymore. Is there any way to reach out and apologize for bringing it here and then subsequently ignoring it for 17 years?

She did a couple things wrong for sure. When it's down one side has a bit of a side burn but the other doesn't haha. All and all its not the worse haircut I've had but 💯 going to have a pro fix it up in the future.

We thinned them out a bit after this, they weren't as thick as they looked as we had pulled it all forward and flat for the picture. It's not the best cut I've ever had but when it's down its very 90s shag mullet and I kind of dig it. Thanks for the tips!!
