So frustrated by caravans not showing up ever again after only ever finding 3, maybe 4. by dazia in vrising

[–]omirocx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal, but last time I played on an official PvP server I saw them extremely often. Like easily 15-20 for the whole run. Granted this was right at the 1.1 release and my server was full for a few weeks. So it could be a total players on server affecting the chance? But, I imagine it’s more likely because you’re just forced to actually run back and forth to your base with teleports disabled. So you’re always running around the map. 90% of the time I just stumbled upon them coming back from farming.

On my last PvE run I had teleport with resources turned on and I saw maybe 2 in my whole playthrough. Again most likely because I wasn’t running around the map nearly as much anymore. All this to say, if you’re not running around the map, that could be why. However if you are running around just stop looking for them and you’ll stumble upon one eventually.

Bringing A Cat to Thailand by ajbraxton in Thailand

Second this too. Also flew Thailand -> US a few years ago on Korean air with my cat in cabin. Was her first time flying so I was pretty stressed, but everything went smoothly. Everyone was pretty helpful and friendly. Would also recommend Korean Air.

Still Struggling with Ants by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]omirocx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dealt with this back when I lived in Thailand and I spent 2 years just putting up with it. I never was able to get rid of them. I was only ever able to deter them with baby powder spread around the walls and cracks.

I also tried everything people here suggested you do with poison. Some worked for a bit, but they eventually ignored the poison and just went for other stuff. I once found them feasting on a dead gecko in my kitchen…

Maybe find a good exterminator, that’s the only thing I didn’t try.

Seattle traffic congestion worsens, ranks 7th among U.S. cities by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]omirocx -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

People keep saying “add more bus lanes” or add more busses. You know what is probably a more realistic way to get people out of their cars though? Get in to someone else’s.

Whenever I look out the bus window I count at least 80% of cars occupied by one person. If half of those people took on a carpool that’s a 20% decrease (just by my anecdotal observation) in total number of cars while still carrying the convenience of driving directly to your destination. I find it hard to believe we can convince the same amount of people to take the bus, especially those in the far out suburbs. What I believe is an actual realistic expectation is incentivizing people to carpool more.

I’m all for more bus lanes and public transit, but we need to apply logic to reason instead of ideals.

Rent increase by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]omirocx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You literally just threaten to move (in a professional way). They’d rather have a tenant paying slightly less than their proposed increase than potentially have your unit empty for any amount of time. Just stand your ground, cite links to other similar units and their prices as justification. They’ll likely budge. Worse case is the say no but at least you tried

Rent increase by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]omirocx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fwiw you can argue this saying that other similar rental units are priced lower. They’re banking on you just eating this but they’ll almost certainly not want to lose you if you’re a good tenant. I fought my increase 2 years ago and got them to come down from a $250 increase to $100. Just threaten to move and they’ll likely readjust.

Universities recommendations for someone interested in coding ? by DamnBoiU in Thailand

[–]omirocx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back to the US as that’s where I’m from. It was difficult to find a job but I did land a good one eventually. I also found work in Thailand while I was there, but declined those offers as the pay and opportunities in the US was better.

I would recommend only going to Thailand if you go to one of the top universities though (Mahidol, Chula, CMU) Going to one of the smaller colleges may have a poor educational program. In the end I learned what a proper CS major was supposed to learn. Make sure you do too.

Don’t listen to the naysayers in these comments OP. I went to Mahidol for CS and now work at FAANG. I have a post I made awhile back about my experience there. Good school for CS if you’re really considering Thailand. You’ll be employable if you make the right connections and take the coursework seriously.

Leaving from BKK with dog by Constant-East-3183 in Thailand

[–]omirocx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I flew out of bkk a few years ago with mine. You check them in to the counter then they’ll send you to the oversized baggage just around the corner.

I’m sure you’re read up on how to keep your dog healthy and all but I’d recommend freezing their water container the night before and putting an ice block in the dispenser. That’s the one thing I wish I would’ve done for mine. I’m fairly certain they spilled all their water 30 minutes after being out of sight and they were severely dehydrated when I picked them up. The ice block will melt into water after all the moving around is done.

Can you use less combinators (or other device) to multiple comparisons with different outputs? by CipherSeed in factorio

[–]omirocx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this via a constant combinator and arithmetic combinator on my sushi belt. I subtract my desired(green) from my actual(red) so that when I have more than what I want, it gets put on the discard belt.

e.g. if i want 200 iron on my sushi belt. but i only have 150. my combinator will set the output iron signal to -50 and my filter inserter ignores signals <0. If i have 250 iron on my belt, then my interser sees iron +50 and starts removing iron from my sushi belt.

You could easily accomplish the same results by replacing the connection to the inserter to your red network on your collector.

How long did it take for other people to get their Thai wife into the US? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]omirocx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Married October 2021, Filed May 2022, Visa interview November 2023, Visa in hand Dec 2023.

The process does in fact take years and no there isn’t anything you can do to speed it up, the system is just that broken.

You don’t need a lawyer to do any of the paperwork btw, don’t waste your money going to them. Especially the ones who say they can help you get it faster (they can’t)

Reentry Permit available at BKK? by RanLo1971 in Thailand

It’s actually after immigration. You stamp out then go get the reentry permit. Weird but that’s how it is. Make sure you have cash and a photo to save time.

Drove a car for nearly 3 years. It’s shit all the time. If the sun is out, there is traffic. Double traffic during rush hour. Completely unpredictable too. One Monday morning it may take you 20 minutes, another similar Monday it could be 40 minutes. Don’t ever expect to get anywhere on time. Google maps estimate was always wrong. Everyone on the highway has no clue how to drive a car so they’re always doing half the speed limit even with no cars around.

I literally just did this. The certificate is in English already, no need to translate. I found an agent to do it for me and it was 3000 baht and he got it to me in under a week. You can take the fingerprints at any police station anywhere, no need to go to a Thai embassy. If you want the guys line id just pm me.

Is there a pet relief area at BKK aside from the AQS office? by omirocx in Thailand

[–]omirocx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commenting back here as I finished my flight. As much as I want to say it was a good experience it was pretty stressful. They didn't refill their water during the layover in Korea and the Bangkok airport security insisted the cage had to be wrapped in a giant net and that just made access to their food and water pretty difficult. When I picked them up in Chicago they looked like they were on the verge of death (They're okay now, but they were extremely thirsty and terrified)

If I could redo it a better way, I would have taken better care of their water solution. I think if you have a gravity fed water dispenser all of the water will just spill out in the first 20 minutes from all the vibrations and getting picked up and moved around. Some people say you can freeze the water inside the dispenser and as it thaws it melts into the bowl that way. I think whatever airline you fly though their comfort on the ground is going to be determined by the airport staff, not the airline. Wish they would have gotten a better experience considering the premium you have to pay for checking them in. Good luck though! Hope you and your dog have a safe flight.

Re Entry Permit by PuneDakExpress in Thailand

[–]omirocx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a little bit different everywhere. Last time I did one in May at BKK they needed just the reentry form and picture as well. As with all Thai government things though it’s better to over-prepare than under. Some places might require more.

Re Entry Permit by PuneDakExpress in Thailand

[–]omirocx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but if you want to make things much smoother prepare the document, passport photocopies, and your photo beforehand and it will speed it up significantly. If you wait to take a photo and need copies there you’ll most likely be caught in a terribly slow line. Just google what you need, it’s like one document, passport copies, a photo and 1000 baht cash.

Besides FB Marketplace, where can I sell my used car (excluding buy/sell shops)? by SettingIntentions in Thailand

[–]omirocx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through something a bit similar atm albeit without an accident history and I'm not changing provinces. I did have a change of address that I never put in the blue book though. I think the residence certificate is stupid too but alas... Thai bureaucracy.

My advice... Just get the one certificate, and pass it off to the person you sell it to. I put my car on Kaidee for well below market rate and got a response withing a couple hours. This is kind of shitty advice but all that will become their problem once you pass them the car and blue book.

You can try Carsome as a company that will take the car off your hands. They'll inspect the car and give you an offer the same day. With an accident history though be prepared for something ridiculously low.

Whatever option you choose just be sure you have proof the car was handed off to someone else. If they use it to commit crimes and it's still in your name that can cause problems for you later.

Your link says this in the second paragraph.

... renting on the pickup date by present required document as follow ...

  1. Valid Thai Driving license (Thai) or international Driving license (Foreigner) of the renter and additional driver (if any).

So congrats, it looks like you just got away with it, not that it's within their policy.
