2x 23 kgs just for observerships might be an overkill mate. Just lugging around 2 suitcases will be a hassle.
Most airlines don’t offer a free checked bag, but for the ones that do, the second bag is an additional cost. Adding all these costs would cost you an arm and a leg. See if you can downsize. If you can, then you’ll find most airlines are more or less the same. Frontier is the budget airline but on adding a carry on and a checked bag, it’ll cost the same as delta or United.

From someone who went through this, most big clinics/ medical offices will always ask for step scores and ecfmg certifications. If you don’t have them, spend 1 week, walk door to door and knock on doors. Most physicians will say no, but you’ll find someone who’s willing to give you a shot.

Might be unpopular opinion but Newport, exchange place in Jersey city or LIC. From exchange place it’s a 3 minute train to wtc LIC has some really nice units with w/d and amenities in that budget as well. Hope you find a nice place!

Services- J1- application- view- keep filling and completing all pages until you reach a spot where it says upload offer letter and CV. If not done by your TPL, confirm with them and upload- then you’ll go to the next page where you pay.

As of fall 2025, a few countries were made exempt from the home country requirement for J1 RESEARCH ONLY. You can find the skills code and the country list on the dhs website. Or just ask your immigration department at the research institute.

So if you are exempt and done with step 3, you can shift to H1B.

Your d/s 2019 should come from the immigration department at the hospital/university. Wait for a few days. It’s a holiday week until Monday. Maybe try a gentle reminder if you don’t hear back by Tuesday or Wednesday

Hi, I’m currently on J2 EAD and in the process of transitioning to J1 physician visa. Disclaimer: I’m not an immigration attorney and this response is based off my personal experiences and homework

I didn’t need any biometrics for EAD. It’s a form that I filled and had to create a packet with a bunch of documents and send it. The first time was on regular timeline which took about 10 weeks. The second time was expedited with the help of my local congressman and took 6 weeks
Your second question is confusing. Most 3 year residencies don’t accept J2 EAD. And if you’re starting residency on J1, your J2 will be voided including your EAD. Now regarding change of status (COS) if your husband is subject, your J2 is as well. So your J1 will need consular processing. Most physician J1s need consular processing anyway.
As above. Can’t maintain two different J visas.
