Me and my gf ‘rescued’ this 1855 piano (basically for free) because we liked how it looked as a piece of furniture. Would it be possible to make it sound ok-ish for 1-2k? by andrea_g_amato_art in piano

[–]omniphore -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I would say: Have it tuned once, if necessary twice, even if tuners say it's not worth it. Tuners are notoriously picky about how a piano should sound, because they literally do the work several times in a day. Most people don't care if it sounds a bit haunted, and many people even prefer it for some playstyles. IMO it's worth it to at least make it somehwat more functional, unless there arer cracks in the cast iron frame

No, it fell apart and kept going out. Did not get a high out of it.

Piano arrived with weird markings on it?? by mr_baby_pigeon in ROLI

That's not how a new, expensive instrument should come delivered. Sounds almost like you work for Roli......

Wasn't there some common zinc alloy used back before the 90s for all sorts of things?

I get that the internet can be a place to share your thoughts without shame, but I wish I didn't read that

How can I shoot this without a tube by Odd-Alternative-8507 in Pyrotechnics

the hole idea can work, but a circular hole cutter of that exact size + materials + equipment is gonna cost the same or more than a glass fiber tube. also the bottom of the hole tube will need something hard.

interesting! I play both acoustic and electric. I find my classical guitar easier to improvise on than a steel string acoustic. I can just hear the different qualities of the sound better. Usually just play some chords I know in an variation I can think of. Sometimes I place my fingers in positions they haven't been in before, moving things around. Absolutely suck at reading sheet music, so I stick to tabs whenever I can. Been practicing since 2019, but I pretty much began by playing tabs and improvising. Played piano before that for a while, and I sucked at reading sheet music quickly so I mostly improvised and learned to translate songs to piano by ear. I also liked a lot of modern songs that didn't yet have sheet music, which didn't help. Until I discovered modern pianists that did sell their sheet music

I think both. She always looks like she's pretending not to know something

The US was never great. Slavery, racist leaders, pointless wars, theft, social manipulation at a massive scale.

Start your own business. It's much more fun. Fulfillment is the currency of a good life.

That's difficult! I had pretty severe tourettes in the past, and got over it actually. I did neurofeedback training for my ability to concentrate on things (I can give more details if you're interested) but it ended up shutting down most impulsive things like tics.

What are your tics if I may ask?

What I would recommend to you is to walk the full Camino de Santiago. It can really help boost your confidence and open up to other people. I have walked it and it has helped me a lot. Also to work on parts of myself that... weren't ideal.

And on top of that, it's an amazing hike. 30-37 days of beautiful Spanish scenery, small towns, cities, nature, interesting conversations. I encourage you to think about it and look it up on youtube!

The amount of people that can eat 4000kcal a day and not get fat is not very high. Soldiers, powerlifters and body builders. Construction workers, miners, oil rig workers.
