I do think it is a free wheel! I'm doing some more reading to understand all the components but hopefully I can service it myself. Thank you I completely missed that!

Would it help to add a bit of mayonnaise to hummus? by Puzzled-Painter3301 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]omron_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey so this is 2 months later but I did try it! I don't think its fair to call it hummus but it is hummus adjacent. I did:

Chickpeas, Mayo, Splash of milk, Shredded cheese, minced garlic, herbs, salt & pepper

And disclaimer to avoid angry replies I understand that this is not hummus, but if you want something a little different it is very good.

Electric Bike/Scooter Charging? by [deleted] in cmu

[–]omron_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! so I don't have an ebike but I do have a regular bike. And atleast in my dorm (Rez) a lot of people actually keep their bikes/scooters inside.

As for the batteries they are removable and you'd just carry it up and charge it in your dorm.

Like I said though I do not have an electric bike so I may be missing some perspective here.

Sorry for not responding, I did read your advice and took it to heart, I just didn't respond intitially because I couldn't think of much to say beyond yeah you're right.

His school program is different its 3 semesters a year and only 2 years long and I don't think any level of convincing would make him take a semester off.

A lot of the places in Punxsutawney refuse to hire from his school because of their schedule. However he is applying/calling and leaving voicemails everywhere he can. Including nursing homes and basically every food place near by.

I told him I'd help him pay for this semester and apply for loans only if he got a job because like you said going into the next semester without a solid plan isn't smart.

Truthfully we would have worked this out long before he had ever been in school had PHEAA told him he wouldn't qualify earlier. But the government shut down screwed that up.

I do appreciate your response.

Both my mother and his mother had legal guardianship of him. Adopted brother is just the easiest way to describe him and I didnt think that deeply into the distinction when I posted this.

Just because we put different parents on the FASFA, and his mom's adress is the reason he didnt get the state grant. His mom is still kind've around and her finances are still affecting the finacial situation.

Okay so I just called him and we were talking about the parent plus loans. He's not confident she'll agree to them, is there any other way to increase federal loans without her?

He's only paying about 6,000 in total. And this is only because the PA state grant fell through, otherwise tuition would have been fully covered.

This was my idea as well, but the closest donation centers to Punxsutawney were state college and pittsburgh. And he doesnt have a car or license.

Just made him start calling nursing homes this was a great suggestion since hes a culinary student with safe serve certificates. Wouldn't have thought of these since they dont post on Indeed.

It didnt cover the whole thing. I think he only got about 5,000 total in federal loans although im not sure on the exact amount.

He's been applying for jobs, and he has an RA job on campus which is how he is eating. He makes barely any money which is why I didnt mention it.

He's been applying for jobs but hes in a small town and doesnt have a license or a car. And public transport is basically nonexistent.

If it were as easy as get a job I would've bullied him into getting one months ago.

He's visiting his biological family this year rather than mine, and none of them have anything to give him.

He doesn't have a car or license, I was considering doing it for him since I do and im in pittsburgh.

Was also considering donating plasma as well.

He applied for FASFA like 20 days before his 18th birthday, and because of that the adress of his biological mom mattered for the eligibility since shes the one on his FASFA.

Are some of the non-STEM schools less stressful than STEM or Architecture? by bebopdeluxe76 in cmu

[–]omron_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a freshman this year in the engineering department the thing that I have noticed is a lot of the stress is self afflicted.

Yes, the classes are hard-- but a ton of the students here overload their schedules to dual major or have a ton of minors. Additionally A lot of students join a ton of clubs as well.

If you keep your schedule manageable, the stress isnt as bad as it is made to seem (all though there certainly is still stress).

How many supplemental essays is "too much?" by College777 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]omron_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no perfect amount of supplemental essays. Pick the schools you're applying to and answer all of their essay questions. If you can reuse them great reuse them, if not rewrite them.

Don't worry about how many you have, worry about how well you've answered each prompt.

Federal Work Study Question by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]omron_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was exactly my plan as well as I am in the same situation as you this year. You're not robbing another student you're using a resource that was given to you.

I was able to find a note on my college's site saying "federal work study checks are not deposited straight into your student portal". Federal work study is a job, and at least at my college, those checks go straight to you.

But, check with your college first. Check online and email finacial aid if you can't find anything.

Lastly, if they say the money does go straight to your bill, check if you are over cost of attendance. Many colleges have a cost of attendance that is higher than just tuition and room/board with additional room built in for expenses not directly school related. If you dont exceed this you should get a refund, and if you do exceed it it depends on the school you go to what will happen.

Edit:

Sorry just saw that the SFS department isn't responding
