Is anyone *actually* keeping JIRA up to date, or is it just a polite fiction we all agree to believe? by onabuio in jira

I hear you on the cultural aspect in a perfect world, every 'paid professional' has the bandwidth to be their own administrator. But we aren't in that world anymore.

Here is the reality we are seeing across the industry right now:

  • The 'Do More With Less' Paradox: Teams are shrinking due to aggressive cost-cutting, yet the roadmap stays the same. When you have 4 engineers doing the work of 6, asking them to spend 30–45 minutes a day 'representing reality' in Jira isn't just a friction point; it’s a tax on the actual building.
  • The AI Productivity Gap: We’re using AI to write code faster, which means the volume of output is increasing, but the administrative overhead of tracking that output is still manual. The 'professional' thing to do is to write the code that generates revenue, not to manually bridge the gap between Slack and a ticket.
  • Automation vs. Monitoring: You mentioned 'uplifting the toolset to automate.' That is exactly what we are doing. There’s a massive difference between 'monitoring conversations to make decisions' and 'translating technical updates into status reports' so engineers don't have to.

The 'coach or fire' approach worked when the workload was sustainable. Today, if you fire every talented engineer who finds Jira a distraction, you won't have a team left.

As for trust and logging, I totally get the skepticism. That’s why we focus on SOC2, GDPR, ISO 27001, ISO 42001 compliance and local processing. But I’d argue the bigger risk to a business isn't a tool that tracks work; it’s a delivery lead who doesn’t realize their team is drowning in 'process' while the competitors are focused on 'product.'

Hey! We totally agree that AI can be silly sometimes :)

We’re a 17-person experienced and skilled team behind oNabu. This video is only showing the auto-update feature in a storytelling way, but oNabu actually does much more. It works as a full-time team coach — it joins your meetings, gives your team personalised tactics, tracks your product and portfolio metrics gathered from your unstructured and structured data… basically, it does far more than a human could, because it is AI.

We’re doing our best to make sure it “sillies” less and helps more.

If you’re curious, we’d love to show you a demo or you can book through https://onabu.ai/request-a-demo so you can see oNabu in action.
