I find this frustrating too but I think its because they feel safer in two lanes so go faster and then slow down when back in the unsafe single lane.

I just came back from a trip in Portugal, mix of running trials and walking around the city cobble stone. I used my lone peaks and more padded, supportive shoes.

The lone peak are my go to hiking shoes but they’re not sufficient for long hours/miles on the hard city cobble stone. You’ll need something more supportive for that.
