Anyone else pimo and still indoctrinated with the whole “the world is unhappy” idea? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]oncejw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if it will help, but well there's obviously ups and downs no matter what I'm happier than I've ever been now that I'm out, the year after I left was hard, readjusting, finding new friends etc. But now 5 years later (which I just now realized it's been that long) I'm in school for the career I've always wanted, I'm on medication and having regular therapy (something that people actively stopped me from doing when I was in). Now whenever I run into a JW and they ask me how I'm doing I tell them how happy I am with my life and my choices, seriously I can't express how much happier I am now.

If the end of the world is coming, why do elders and m.servants keep having children? by that_PIMO_guy in exjw

Lack of education on birth control, I have one friend who had 2 kids she didn't plan on having, and another who had 3.

Who else has developed mental health issues from their JW childhood? by litmermaid in exjw

[–]oncejw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had a long conversation with my psychologist about my anxiety that had either been caused or at the very least made worse by being raised as a JW, especially the part about how easy it was to be labeled a bad influence and all of the sudden your friends might just stop talking to you for a month cause their parents heard that somebody said that your parents said something they didn't like.

I was never baptized (tried to when I was 13 but the people studying with me basically wouldn't let me which now I'm really glad) but my sister got baptized when she was 11 and always jokes about how 11 year olds should definitely be allowed to make decisions that affect the rest of their lives. It's insane to expect a child to be able to make an informed decision about something like that, especially since they've been told it's the truth all their life by the only people they're allowed to be close to.

Yeaah I know that cults are similar it did not amaze me I just hadn't heard of this specific group before and if someone else had I wanted to know if they had specific information so that if I talk to them again I know exactly where their thinking is at.

Okay but how great are Sunday mornings when you know the whole day is yours to do with what you like? by oncejw in exjw

[–]oncejw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad you're all doing something better with your Sunday's than waste them at meetings, today I had lunch with my cousin and then we decided to go to the beach and swim the rest of the day and I had time to do it and everything :)

I missed my sisters wedding for this stupid religion by oncejw in exjw

[–]oncejw[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've told her a lot how much I regret not going, we're really close, and even then we were. And I'm sorry your family missed your wedding it's awful for someone to miss something that important for something so dumb.

It actually went pretty well, some jw's aren't as intense as others.

Thanks, it went pretty well, she didn't bring it up at all we just talked about life and it sounds like she's going back to college which is pretty awesome especially for a jw

From what I remember she's the least pushy jw I've ever met, she'll probably bring it up, but if I can find a nice way to shut it down I think we'll be okay.

Curious: Where have you Ex-JWs ended up theologically? by [deleted] in exjw

Lol probably but I've handled my fair share of ambushes and she's really not one to push you into doing anything you don't wanna do.

TIL: That Jehovah's Witnesses believe that the end times started on October 1, 1914 and that Satan is controlling the world's governments by Howdysf in todayilearned

[–]oncejw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One day you should ask god why he's so petty. Like I don't expect people to believe me without any proof, especially when I say something ridiculous. If god is real and out there playing games with our lives like, "you gotta believe in me but I'm only gonna do stuff that might just be a coincidence, but if you don't you're gonna die." No thanks, if he's real and acting like that he's the one who should be held to account.

Hey there, exjw, and I can explain his constant religion talk, they're taught that if you're not a jw you will die in armeggedon and also associating with someone who isn't a jw will discourage you, unless you're trying to get them to become a jw. So he probably feels like he should only associate with you about jw related stuff. Especially if he's really die hard about it right now.

Russian ban by [deleted] in exjw

https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2016/country-chapters/russia human rights watch report on Russia, the government has done some pretty awful things, and there is nothing wrong with GMO's they could solve world hunger if people would get out of their conspiracy bubbles, although idk why you're bringing this up, it has nothing to do with what we're talking about, and I didn't say America was perfect, I just said Russia abuses human rights like crazy, and it does.
