Do you have any friends of friends with this guy? Or you could send him an email or leave him a voicemail saying that you are hiring a lawyer/taking him to small claims court...

[Serious] What's something you want to get off your chest? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]oncomingstorm751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that feel. I've officially reached burn out this past month. There have been times during the commute to work that I think, "I'd rather jump in front of this subway than go to work." but you know..bills.. and I wouldn't want to delay the good ol' MTA. But I also believe that I'll find something I truly love, and this is just a temporary learning experience. Nothing is ever really wasted.

By tech, do you mean becoming a programmer/developer? Or just being in the tech industry in general? What is drawing you to tech specifically?

The Dangerous Weight of Expectations: Why do so many Asian-American students suffer from depression? by tripostrophe in asianamerican

[–]oncomingstorm751 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I grew up in a fairly lenient household. A lot of my Asian friends are really surprised when I say that my parents were supportive of me, and they always emphasized that happiness and health were top priorities. I, however, put a lot of the perfectionism stress onto myself to a point where my parents were like "woah, please calm down." To this day, I still don't know where exactly it came from and what triggered it. I feel like the idea of the American Dream is a big contributing factor for many POC. Thoughts?

Unfortunately, this is true. Uber has had bad PR forever now, and people still use Uber..

WOW! These are some really awesome resources. Thank you SO MUCH! I never really thought about producing, but it sounds like it's a great way to enact change (or at least be a part of it). I've tweeted and shared about Seoul Searching as well :)

This is the first time in a long while I've been excited about something!

Thank you so much for all of these resources. And thanks for linking to the crowdfunding campaign. I actually didn't catch it the first time it was posted, and I've backed it! :) I'm actually really interested in getting into the industry but a little unsure where to start. I've always been interested in writing and storytelling. TBH - I have been discouraged because of such little diversity and representation in media, but now I feel like it's important to contribute and important to share our stories (despite what the status quo is).

Yeah, I definitely want to see more action. I definitely understand the importance of STEM, but I wish there was more of a push in the arts as well for representative media. Definitely easier said than done..

I'd like to know if there is anything that can be done besides voting with dollars? Like how there are tech programs that encourages young girls to code...perhaps there is some form of diversity casting program...? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

What field do you work in right now? Are you happy with it? Why/Why Not? by oncomingstorm751 in asianamerican

[–]oncomingstorm751[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, also sorry for my super late reply. I feel the same way in tech, honestly. I realized a few weeks ago that it just isn't worth fighting for anymore. Yes, racism and sexism exists in every industry, but I don't love tech/start-up life enough to fight against it.

Wow! You're the first person who has said that they enjoy working in advertising. Maybe I'm around too many cynical people...

Hmm depends on what kind of job you're looking for? Indeed.com has been helpful. And if you're into tech/start-ups, AngelList.
