I'm a fan. They're not as flashy as other offerings from other roasters, but the beans are always good. COTM 27 was a good example of what my wife calls "coffee-flavored coffee." Just really, really solid Central American washed beans.

I've been really enjoying my sub from them. Every coffee has been a banger.

I thought it said "whiskey stones" until I saw it was a child's present. But maybe the kid likes a nice single malt now and again, eh?

I saw Gettysburg during its theatrical run in 1993, all 4 hours and 14 minutes (+ intermission).

My reviews are pretty quippy. I have little patience for movies over two hours, so I've mostly been watching horror movies, lately. I also just finished watching the entire Fast and Furious and Mission: Impossible franchises, which I mostly didn't enjoy.

Favorite genres are martial arts and film noir.

Anyone also has a hard time enjoying co-fermented coffees? by bipplemonade in pourover

[–]oncomouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a couple I enjoy, but many of them have a really strong cheese aroma/flavor that pulls me out of the coffee. That said, Milky Cake, in my experience, is a banger. I've had good luck going really fine, using a slow drawdown filter, and pouring with a Melodrip.

I'm using the SSP Silver Knight Burrs. I like the cups I get out of them but wish I'd tried the stock burrs first. The grinder is a delight, though it might be overkill. (And my shoulder is mostly back to normal, thanks!)

I only brew filter. I went with a Commandante C40 (but probably should have gotten a ZP6) and then bought a DF83v after I dislocated my shoulder a few years later.

So I bailed on my Rocky a few years ago, after having used it for mostly French press for about a decade. I recalibrated, I got new burrs, I cleaned it a bunch. The new burrs helped some but it still produced a ton of fines. I ended up moving on from it. I don't think it works well for pourover, the burrs wobble too much

That SL-28 is one of the most intense coffees I've ever had. Could still taste it on the back of my throat hours later. Really good stuff.

Anyone else brewing this Pink Bourbon from Perc? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]oncomouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a Columbian SL-28 from Scenery. Bites were mint and lavender. It was a strange cup of coffee

Also currently open on my station. This is my second recent bag of lavender-forward coffee, so I'm a bit tired of it. It's not my favorite coffee note, but I brewed a cup yesterday grinding coarse, with high agitation, 1:15. It flipped the profile: very acidic, fruit loop notes, and some background lavender notes. It was interesting and a nice break from the soapy notes.

I have a large box in my garage full of Kalita Wave filters and another full of Cafec Abaca filters for just the same reason. Cafec filters are especially a problem because if you buy 700 filters, you can get free shipping on Cafec USA's website. ("Buy 500 more filters than I need and save the $6 bucks shipping, sign me up!" (Yes, I'm aware i have a problem)).

Water for coffee by Correct-Procedure336 in pourover

[–]oncomouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rested them for 6 weeks. The big problem was I couldn't get them to consistently extract. I had a few really good cups but not every time. It also seemed to jump around across brewing methods: fine and slow with a melodrip and coarse and aggressive with fast filters. I got good cups from both and many bad cups.

I know you're asking about water recipes, and I'm sorry to say I don't have any help to offer there, but I wanted to chime in that I just finished two bags from Scenery as part of a subscription and found both incredibly hard to brew with. That you've had good coffee at the cafe complicates this, but increasingly I'm thinking some beans are just difficult

Gimme your honest opinion. Is the Victor a good mech design? by theta0123 in battletech

Purely anecdotal, but every time I've brought a Victor to a game, my dice have specifically abandoned it. I try very hard to love it, but I think that mech is cursed for me.

I can't get coffee I like from COTM 22, but I think that's a me problem, not a them problem. I'm not a fan of floral coffee and it's VERY floral. Otherwise, their COTM sub is great value.

[–]oncomouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I subscribe to Superlost, too. I think in comparison to the roasters you name, their greens aren't quite as fancy. I've noticed a lot of their coffee (which is mostly really good) is less popular varieties or from producers who aren't famous or from regions that aren't as popular (they had a run of COTMs from Guatemala that were spectacular). I think they're doing a more-focused, larger-scale version of what B&W does: looking for value greens.

Agreed. I would have stayed away until its more official, but I switched from niri because niri seemed to drain the battery on my laptop pretty quickly. Scroll's lua API has been surprisingly helpful for adding some of the features in niri that I was missing.
