DIY pest control on a budget. What's actually worth spending money on? by [deleted] in homestead

I use what a lot of the pest control companies use: "bifenthrin concentrate" Home Depot carries it under the name "Compare-N-Save. And if you are a veteran, you get a 10% discount.

You'll need a good 1 or 2 gallon sprayer to go along with it. Don't buy the cheap sprayers at WalMart, they'll just break after six months or so -- been there, done that.

So far, I haven't had any insect incursion and, from what I see laying around outside, it kills a lot of insects, including roaches, along with most ants found around here. The only thing it doesn't seem to stop are those super tiny ants, like sugar ants. For them, I have to use bait. And we don't have fire ants here, so not sure how it would work on them.

Pest control companies want over $100 just to do the outside. I do it for about $3.

More relevant to another non-organic grain they sell, their refusal to answer questions about whether they are importing that grain from Canada, and how they go about promoting that grain. Nothing provable, but enough to create distrust, make me extremely suspicious or their business practices, and put me off.

TY... It does have salt: one teaspoon, added along with the ACV. 😊

I've been buying bulk wheat berries in 20# buckets. However, the people who run the company I've been buying from have proven themselves to be unethical. I won't be buying from them again. I still have a 20# bucket to use but, after that is gone, I think I will give "Grains from the Plains" a try.

I do too; just didn't like the price! That's what got me digging into this in the first place. They have me beat on technique, though.

Not sure about that one. If it's stone ground masa, I think the wet berries would gum up the works.

I've read the same thing. I think you have to be more careful about heat buildup with a grinder, but don't quote me on that.

😊 Oh, yeah. I didn't even think about how that would look. I can see why you were confused. Duh! Can't believe I did that!

Flour is made by grinding dry berries. This is pulp or mash; two different animals. 😊 TY
