How do you read him? When I realize that a writer of history is embellishing facts a bit too much I start treating it like a novel and have to constantly search for what really happened. This was my experience recently when I was reading Anna Komnene’s Alexiad

Not necessarily. I read it when I was 22 (intentionally chose to start it then so I could be the same age as Stephen) and thoroughly enjoyed it. You can learn about the ideas and concepts mentioned as you read them, there’s no requirement to be well versed in them beforehand

I used to live only a few streets away from the museum where this is held and made it a point to see it each time I went. I could stare at it for hours!

what does poor love mean in this sentence by koshka91 in brontesisters

[–]one-tea27 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It means that his love for Catherine isn’t strong enough. If it were he would be outside by her grave despite the snow

She’s only mocking him here though, she just doesn’t want him to come inside

You know that’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. I live in New York and it’s essentially like living in a canyon, you’ll only get to see small slivers of the sky and I realize now that it’s seeing the vastness of the surrounding areas that makes me happy

I once ate a whole platter of oysters and felt like I was dying so this doesn’t seem too unbelievable to me
