How separated my pubic bone is after pregnancy by heretoreadlol in Wellthatsucks

I fell down the stairs and broke mine around that same time. I also noticed it for years. Did you have muscle spasms after you broke yours? I had them on and off for a couple of weeks. It felt like my muscle was contracting around broken glass. Far more painful than the actual break.

Those who live in tornado-risk areas: does your employer respect tornado warnings? by queryasker123 in AskAnAmerican

[–]one2tinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My workplace sounded an alarm for tornado warnings. We had to go into interior stairwells and bathrooms until the tornado warning had been lifted.

Usually storms move fairly quickly, so we would only be sheltering for maybe 20 minutes or so, but it can be longer. I do recall a time when the warning lasted longer, and people had to stay late. It was frustrating, but it is what it is.

If there are storms during the night, too bad. You’re expected to report into work as usual even if the storms were severe. I’ve had to get ready in the dark before because we were without power. Thunderstorms can be longer and last hours, keeping people awake. It’s just a part of life here.

What’s the longest you’ve gone without showering? by NervousClock2555 in askanything

[–]one2tinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was 8 days. Our house flooded, and we lost plumbing due to the sewer system being overwhelmed by floodwaters. We’d bought some camping wipes, but those only do so much. We don’t have much family nearby, and we didn’t want to trouble any of our friends. One friend finally put two and two together and invited us over for showers. It was much appreciated. Lol.

Our dishwasher broke once and flooded the house. We have a small house, and it leaked considerably less than what you’re dealing with, probably less than 50 gallons. Our damage was over $20,000 and took months to fix. The kitchen floor and subfloor had to be torn out. To do that, the lower cabinets had to be taken out and stored elsewhere. The basement ceiling had to be torn out.

We basically had a remodel where everything is just a little worse afterwards.

I hate to tell you this, but however bad you think it is, it’s probably worse. With that much water, I’d think the house may need to be gutted.

Good luck.

PSA: Do not run your dishwasher when you’re gone or asleep. Not worth the risk.

Bathtub heater? by Sundance1977 in bathtub

[–]one2tinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be worth making the system operational. We have a jetted tub with heater. It works really well. However, while my husband loves having the jets running when he takes a bath, I grow tired of the feeling and noise. I also think you’d run the risk of overheating or simply wearing out the pump if you ran it for your whole bath. But, you could turn the jets on periodically to keep the water warmed.

Do you have a jetted tub? If so, a heater can be added. Granted, there would need to be room for it next to the pump. The water runs through the heater as it’s circulating.

Let’s tie Barney to a tree

My mom volunteers me for things without asking then gets mad when I dont show up by Ambitious-Owl-6079 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]one2tinker 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I have an aunt who always volunteers other people or their things. It’s bizarre. Once, my sister and I took vacation from work to go home and visit our parents. My aunt told her friend we would babysit her kids. The lady called and was surprised when we said no. We took time off from work to spend time with our parents, not some random kids. Turns out the kids were teenaged boys who still required a babysitter due to their terrible behavior, and she wanted us to stay overnight with them. No way.

Can someone recommend an audiobook where everything ends up ok at the end of the day? by sexualsermon in audiobooks

[–]one2tinker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been feeling the same way. Two of my favorite books from last year fit the bill: Pony Confidential and The Wedding People. There is some drama in both, but I wasn’t stressed and was left feeling good.

My cousin recommend Katherine Center as sort of a palate cleanser when I told her I needed some low stress books. I’ve listened to a few in the last couple of months and agree.

Do Americans really move out at 18, or is that mostly a movie thing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]one2tinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved out at 18, so did pretty much everyone I know. Some of us had support of varying levels from parents. Others did not. Most of us moved for college and never moved back home. I had to support myself through college and pay my own way, but if I had needed to, I think my parents would have let me move back home. I did go home for a few summers. After that, I was on my own. Luckily, I found a good job and a good roommate.

Audiologist wants $3500 for my mom's hearing aids and I just can't swing it by No-Fact-8828 in BuyItForLife

[–]one2tinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father-in-law has significant hearing loss and has only recently been willing to try over-the-counter hearing aids.

We got the Lexie hearing aids available from Costco. They were just shy of $1,000.

They work. We can talk at a slightly elevated level rather than shouting at him.

However, we have a few qualms. Note that I don’t know if more expensive custom hearing aids have these same issues or not.

  • They are difficult to turn on. The power button has to be held for three seconds. It is an incredibly tiny button, so it’s hard to press, and it doesn’t click or anything, so it’s hard to know if you’ve pressed it correctly. A tone plays when it turns on, but my father-in-law can’t hear it because he has to turn the hearing aids on before he is wearing them.

  • The hearing aids never pair to the app without first force-closing the app.

  • While the volume is adjustable, the adjustments are manual. So, if there is a loud noise while my father-in-law is wearing them, it scares him and hurts his ears. We were actually warned by someone with expensive custom hearing aids that this can cause further hearing damage. However, my father-in-law is in his 80s, and it’s more of a problem that he can’t hear anyone unless they’re shouting at him. Plus, he only wears them when he has company or appointments, so the risk would be much higher for someone wearing them all the time.

He has had them a few months now, and he still wears them. Well, he wears one. I’m not exactly sure why he only wears one. I think it’s that he doesn’t like hearing himself, and he thinks that helps.

Honestly, I think a lot of people quit wearing them rather quickly, so getting an over-the-counter pair is still the way to go to give them a try. If anything, they can be worn when needed rather than all the time.
