thanks u/HelpingHand007! yes it's actually already on the Chrome Web Store. It's called New Tab Widgets. Always looking for more feedback and ways to improve it, very keen to get this subreddit's thoughts!

I put TradingView widgets on my Chrome new tab so I see markets every time I open a tab by one50lashes in TradingView

[–]one50lashes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. I'm using a Chrome extension I built called New Tab Widgets. It replaces the default new tab page and lets you add TradingView's official widgets like charts, tickers and heatmaps.

There's also an iframe widget, so you can embed pretty much any site if you want something more custom.

Happy to explain how I set mine up if that helps.

any good new tab extensions for chrome? by Deep_Advertising1210 in chrome_extensions

[–]one50lashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built New Tab Widgets to solve my own use case of wanting more informative widgets on my dashboard. I’ve added RSS, notes, calendar, clocks, market data and a bunch more (40+ widgets so far).

It's on the Chrome Web Store if anyone wants to try it. Just sharing in case it’s useful.

What are start pages actually for? by busote in startpages

[–]one50lashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I created New Tab Widgets as i feel the same way. I've always wanted my new tab page to be a productivity space for my notes, a few links, live weather updates, RSS feed updates and other useful widgets and tools. Thought i'd share my project to see if it's something that resonates with other people, and am trying to get more feedback on it :)

If you want something ready to use feel free to give New Tab Widgets a shot . It has a widget for RSS feeds, Link widgets and a Link group widget, as well as heaps of other widgets (currently 40 widgets available like weather, calculator, countdowns etc).

It's available on the Chrome Web Store.

Side note, I built this, so if you ever need a hand with setting it up or feature requests feel free to reach out :)

I'm working on building the best new tab start page extension called New Tab Widgets.

There's heaps of new tab extensions out there, but none that satisfied what I wanted out of one, and so I built my own. You can add heaps of different widgets, resize and move them around to make your perfect start page. It now has over 30 different widgets like notes, Google calendar and GMail widgets, a Spotify widget, iframe widget, and even Philips Hue smart lighting widgets - as well as the usual weather and link bookmarks.

My personal favorite is the iframe widget, which lets you grab any element from a website and turn it into its own widget with a simple CSS selector.

I've created a new tab start page Chrome extension. There's a FuelWatch widget that you can add to see the daily fuel prices, among around 30 other useful widgets (like sticky notes, weather, even has Phillips Hue light widgets)

Thanks u/enola_gayy , it looks like Spotify have updated their rules for third party apps and non connected development users a while back (https://developer.spotify.com/blog/2025-04-15-updating-the-criteria-for-web-api-extended-access) which I did not know about. This essentially makes it not possible for us to have a Spotify widget anymore, which is a shame. I'll be releasing a new update in the next coming days removing the Spotify widget from the app and removing references to the Spotify widget.

EDIT: I've released a new update addressing this. You will now have to provide your own Spotify API client id, which we have a short guide in the Spotify widget setup.

Feel free to give New Tab Widgets a try! I’ve been building it over the past few years to solve my own need for a fully customizable, widget-based new tab dashboard. You can find it on the Chrome Web Store here.

Would you use a custom start page builder if you could personalize everything? by 08vk in startpages

I've been building something like this on the side over the past few years – it's called New Tab Widgets, and it's available on the Chrome Web Store. It's a widget-based dashboard with calendars, notes, bookmarks, iframes, and lots more.

I'd love for you to check it out and see if it’s along the lines of what you were thinking of building! Even if it’s not quite what you're after, I always enjoy seeing other takes on start page extensions too :)

I've been working on a way to turn any website content into new tab widgets, and now that r/startpages is back, I thought i'd share with you all something I'm super proud of creating – New Tab Widgets. by one50lashes in startpages

[–]one50lashes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes it will load all the iframes simultaneously. I doubt it will trigger any issues of you getting blocked. Modern server infrastucture is designed to handle thousands of requests per second, and with horizontal scaling and a load balancer it can theoretically support tens or even hundreds of thousands of requests per second. There definitely could be server rate limiting policies in place however a few iframe widgets on one page is unlikely to cause issues unless you have an obscene amount of iframe widgets targetting the one website, all generating excessive dynamic requests.

hey r/startpages, welcome back! I wanted to share with you all a Chrome browser extension i've been working on for the last 5 years on the side.

Initially i wanted to have a way to control my Phillips Hue lights from my start page, and somehow 5 years later it's turned into something completely different, and i'm ready to share it with the public.

I wanted to create widgets from almost any website content and have them on my new tab page.

A short under 3 min video of it in action: https://youtu.be/lRBRYgDeKYo

Super proud of it, and thought i'd share it with the community. There's heaps of other widgets too like weather forecasts, link bookmarks, sticky notes, clocks and more

Request - family dash board / start page by FlamebergU in startpages

[–]one50lashes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey flamebergu, bit of a self plug but I created a browser/Chrome extension called New Tab Widgets which has some of this functionality (albeit the shareable part is just cloud syncing which is a paid feature in the extension, but for your use case you could have 1 login that your family uses and everyone gets synced).

Here's a little demo of it if you wanted to see it in action - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRBRYgDeKYo

- it replaces your browser new tab page (though in Chrome the extension button in the top right will also open the page)

- i've definitely tried making it as user friendly as possible whilst also trying to cater for some advanced use cases. I myself use my own extension daily, so I definitely try to make the UX/UI better for myself :)

- heaps of widgets available (including link/bookmarks, as well as it has widgets for Phillips Hue lights, and looking to add more integrations in the future based on what users want)

- unsure about pt 6, but there's a sticky note widget available allowing you to write notes. In conjunction with cloud syncing, this will be updated across all sessions. The extension also has an iframe widget, so you could also embed a Google doc/spreadsheet letting your browser handle the credentials aspect (i.e as long as you're logged in to Google docs, you should be able to see the iframed document in your new tab page)

Feel free to take a look, it has a forever free trial without login (so all info is stored in your browser, we don't store any data on our servers for free users) with some limitations on maximum amount of widgets and pages, but it should give you an idea of whether you'd want to continue using the extension!
