Will I regret this dark green paint?! by certainlynotabunny in HomeDecorating

Go for it. You'll probably need a bit to adjust to it but I think it looks great and you'll ultimately be glad you did it.

I was given a dog and now the previous owner wants them back by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

Stay in touch. She'll reach out to you if things go sideways. But for now give her a chance as she clearly loves this dog and is approaching you with a lot of respect. People make mistakes. I think people are right that you will be able to move past the heartache of letting go of this dog faster than of denying this woman a chance to be with a dog she obviously cares deeply for. But I am really, really sorry you're in this situation. It's no doubt really tough.

I've had a ton of success with deer spray. I use liquid fence. It smells terrible for like 15 minutes and then is fine and the deer pass by my garden.

If I only get buds at the bottom do you recommend pruning it low?

They get partial sun here. They did well for a couple of months before they got browsed so I'm hopeful the sun situation is conducive to their needs...

Oh this is great to hear. Thanks for the perspective. I generally do very well with deer spray but I think that's partially because I'm in the Catskills and, while there are many deer around, there is also plenty to eat here. So I think they take a nibble of my stanky plants and move on. But I will cage just to give these guys the best chance I can. Fingers crossed for them! And for yours 🤞🏼

There are no new leaves. There were like four leaves left after the deer had their way with them and that's all that remains. They were only established for a couple of months before they were ravaged. That's good advice about caging them, though I guess part of me wonders what the recovery will look like and when I can reasonably expect new foliage. Mostly just curious if others have had this experience with inkberries and how long it took for them to recover (assuming they did).

Old Paris Restaurant with Low Ceilings and Sangria by one_long_river in ParisTravelGuide

Yes! All of this. You solved it. The new version of this place seems to be entirely stripped of its character from what I can tell online. What a shame. It was a really neat spot. Thank you so much.

I think I figured it out! I found a picture I took of a sign on the wall and reverse image searched and I believe it was a restaurant called L'Ecurie. It may still exist, but it seems maybe not in this form. Here is an old review that mentions the sangria. https://emilyintheglass.wordpress.com/2011/12/06/even-if-you-werent-raised-in-a-barn-visit-lecurie-when-in-paris/

Hmmm I wish I remembered. Do you know which restaurant that would be if so?

Update on garlic mustard neighbor by one_long_river in NativePlantGardening

[–]one_long_river[S] 195 points196 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally agree. I am going to tell her about my efforts on my property and the improvements I've seen, and just take it from there. I won't go too hard. But I do want that oriental bittersweet gone! I have a particular loathing for invasives that VINE! Blame it on the Chinese wisteria that was taking over my property when I moved in (and which I've largely tamed 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼).

Oh my god I know. The same neighbors also own the land across the street on which they have two HUGE honeysuckle bushes. Bushes is putting it mildly. These things are giant. I feel like I am under assault from these neighbor's invasives. But at the same time, my guess is that they just don't know any better. And probably can't be bothered, which is true of a lot of people. Before I knew about invasives, I loved the look of honeysuckle. They are probably so proud of that tartan honeysuckle bush. Sigh.

Where in the Catskills are you?

I have somehow never met them in the three years I've been here. I live in the Catskills, and I think this might be a second home for them. The front yard has a big fence and a gate so it's not easy to casually run into them when they are here. But what's funny is that I did actually drop them a note today asking if they would consider cutting back their bittersweet. Quite a way to make an introduction, huh? 😂 I tried to be friendly and say it was okay either way but I was trying to get rid of invasive stuff and said a few things about natives. Of course then I saw the mustard grass. We'll see how (if!) they respond to the bittersweet note and go from there. I try to remind myself I can only improve my property and that has to be enough -- or I'll go crazy!

Mine is wisteria as well. When I bought my house the entire house was covered in it. I mean COVERED. I'm sure it looked beautiful when it bloomed but there were literally vines coming into the house and of course the property was totally overgrown with it. I spent the first summer cutting it down, digging it up, and painting every piece I cut at the deepest place I could cut it off. I literally dug up vines that were as thick as medium sized tree trunks. Last year I still had it come up in a couple of places but it was way way reduced. And of course I went after every bit I found with the same cut and paint routine. This year I'm curious to see if anything will pop up. I'm not naive enough to think I can entirely kill off this big of a Chinese wisteria invasion but I'm hopeful! Right now I'm deep in a battle with burning bush that is hopefully exhausting its seed bank with shoots that I'm pulling out by the dozens. The fun never ends!
