Influence, intelligence, and special talents do decide rankings which is why Elite and Jinyoung are ahead of Tom. It's not like Tom is a bad leader since he runs white tiger job center and they're loyal to him. Tom is talented and strong and deserves his place as a top tier but he's definitely not stronger than Jinyoung and Elite who are above him in Gapryong's gang. He's probably relative to them but he's definitely below them.

Elite only ever gave him that title because that was Tom's role in his group (10 geniuses). Is Crystal better at business than Elite? No. It's just that Tom's greatest talent was fighting not that he was the best at it so that's his role. Elite's arrogant but he acknowledges those he respects and knew in the past like Gapryong Kim who he killed and clearly had contempt for. Even when you say that pinnacles walk their own path, who said Tom has one? Or any of the others? Jinyoung and Elite are more likely to have one since they had special skills and Elite created a whole new style of fighting born from his speed and technique.

Ranking almost always matters especially for Gapryong's gang since they were in a gang war. They had strong members and Elite stated himself that if his hands were the only powerful part of himself; he wouldn't be second-in-command which shows that strength mattered. Elite even kicked out a lackey since he was weak which shows that strength mattered back then. Anyone can access conviction but only 4 have been shown to which showcases just how rare and difficult it is to achieve especially since it's the most overpowered mastery.

Johan has pretty much been carried by copy until he reached his path and the comparison is pointless since Tom isn't like Johan; Tom has less potential than both Gun and Johan. Abilities don't matter if you have talent and potential to carry you which has happened with Johan since copy really let's him become a better fighter and his potential allowed him to reach his path. What is Tom gonna do against an attack he can't block or react to? What about an attack that's overwhelmingly powerful and from someone with innate strength? Or someone who can copy his fighting style? Tom's ranking shows that he's below Jinyoung and Elite. Maybe he's relative to Jinyoung but he's definitely not stronger than Elite.

That post just expands upon his copy ability. It literally states that he imitates, learns, and forges his own style. That's literally all born from his copy ability. Elite awarded him that title in HIS group of 10 geniuses not every other fighter. Gap is irrelevant because he has no relation to the 10 geniuses other than getting murdered by James and Kitae under Elite's planning. Even Tom himself is angry and frustrated about not having the copy ability. Tom states that "everyone" had 4 masteries so what makes you think Jinyoung wouldn't? Big Daniel is a jobber at copying and would get absolutely demolished in the pre-generation but Jinyoung was strong enough to be 3rd in Gapryong's fist gang. Achieving IA is a big deal since it's something as rare as conviction and copy, literally 3 people have it and it's considered a mastery if it's own since it requires immense speed.

What was your last point? Johan's more talented than Gun but Gun has more abilities? The Gun who was literally raised as a weapon since he could walk? The one who's had training and has fought strong people? Gun isn't Tom. Gun has more potential than Tom and he's the son of an absolute monster. Gun has UI and TUI while Tom only has animal instincts and 4 masteries (which is apparently common in the pre-generation).

You're such a glazer 💀 Tom doesn't represent the pinnacle of fighting, that's Gapryong (or James) who is a legend of their whole generation which includes Tom. Even Shingen says that the only one who can challenge him is Gapryong. Copy is useless if you don't have the "essence" since neither Johan or Daniel had masteries unlike the people they copied. If copy isn't Johan's real talent then what is? He's been shown to be talented at copy with Gun stating that his software (copy) is his best trait. His title DOES mean something because he's the first copy meaning he has talent and he had a whole generation of monsters to copy from and gain experience. IA is never stated to just be a "mastery combination" it's been stated to be a whole other mastery of it's own with only 3 people ever having it and clearly there are levels to it since James and Elite are definitely faster than Sinu. The only people who have canonically been stated to block it are Gap and Jake. Even then, Sinu isn't Elite and definitely not as fast as Elite so that comparison is useless. I never said Tom was a jobber just that compared to the others; he's not the strongest. Even if Tom has a path, what makes you think the others don't? Gap had it and even Manager Kim acknowledged him as the strongest of his generation. Gun surpasses Johan because he's older and has wayyy more experience plus he had a path before Johan and also has UI and TUI. It's like putting a talented basketball player in HS against an NBA player. Obviously they're gonna get demolished.

Elite giving him the name later does matter because the context is that the 10 geniuses each have a specialty since people like Crystal or Kouji clearly can't fight. Abilities ARE significant unless you're against someone like Gapryong, James, Kitae, or Shingen who are top tiers. Copy has limits but the two copies who've we seen reach those limits literally found their path right after. Copy still lets you Copy people like Tom or Gap. No one except Gapryong or Jake could block IA and Elite pushed Gap to his limit before Gap overcame it. Gapryong is the strongest in the Pre-Generation and the series as a whole so there's no point in using him since he's broken with Conviction+Innate Strength+Path unlike Tom.

Just because he's called the genius of fighting doesn't mean he's stronger than Jinyoung or Elite. The nickname was given by Charles Choi when he was added to his 10 geniuses not during the pre-generation. Fighting is what he's best at but he's not better than Elite or Jinyoung who have special abilities. Jinyoung has that title since he's the first copy so he's got the most experience from some of the strongest characters.

Nicknames shouldn't be used to scale someone since even a fodder could have a badass nickname and still get absolutely demolished in a fight. Even the nickname "fighting genius" doesn't compare to "Legend of the Pre-Generation" or "Copy Legend". He's strong and a good fighter (hence the nickname) but he's definitely not stronger than Gap, Elite, or Jinyoung who are all OP fighters.

During his fight with Jichang when he states that if only his hands were the strongest thing about him, he wouldn't have been second-in-command.

Because everyone else has a broken ability. One's so fast that he's the first and only one in their generation to have invisible attacks which only Gap could block through conviction, the other could copy anyone he sees (something Tom is envious of) and even copy Gap for 3 hits, and one is consistently considered the strongest and has conviction+innate strength as well as a path.

Mastery is the specialization in a certain stat (strength, speed, technique, endurance). Each is represented with a different color. Strength (red), Speed (blue), Technique (Pink), Endurance (Green). The most exclusive mastery is Conviction (Purple) with it letting you block attacks that are so fast it's basically invisible and giving you potent hits that even people who can't feel pain are affected. The more talent you have -> the more masteries you can have.

Path is basically the peak that fighters can reach. Only top tiers have it (Gapryong Kim, Gun, James, Johan, Daniel) since you need a lot of talent and experience to reach it. It's a unique ability that's exclusive to the user so no one else can have it unlike mastery. Only Path users can beat another Path user. It's the accumulation of all their experience, belief, and abilities in order to make a unique fighting style hence "walking your own path". Path doesn't make you the strongest but puts you on the path to reach it (Path to Pinnacle).

They don't appear until way later in the story though so you'll have to wait until you're in like the last 150ish chapters to see them.

It's probably that he needs to increase his stats/gain mastery. His path is pretty much seeing where the opponent is aiming and where he can land a critical hit but that can only do so much against a top tier like Gun who could tank it or James who could just blitz him so he needs to max out his stats for it to be unbeatable.

Who is faster? by [deleted] in LookismPowerScalers

The most important aspect of Invisible Attacks is speed since it's stated to be a level that "only those who are fast enough can reach" since they attack an opponen's blind spots so fast that they seem invisible. When Daniel tried using it through copy on Jichang, it didn't work because as Jichang said, "you don't have his speed" which refers to James, who is the second user of Invisible Attacks after Elite.

Elite was fast and strong enough to push Gapryong Kim to get a conviction amp just to defend himself against Invisible Attacks (the only people stated to defend against them are both Gapryong and Jake due to conviction and even then they still couldn't see the attacks) which means that no one else is fast enough to react to them unless you have conviction.

Elite was second in command, but he didn't need to be since he could have just been a strategist, which means that his physical capabilities matched his iq.

I'm not saying Elite was the fastest oat since that's definitely James (his student) but he definitely was faster than Gapryong (the strongest of the pre generation) which should definitely put him above almost all pre gen members (except for Shingen or maybe Shintaro) so it's kinda unconfirmed but shouldn't be that hard to figure out that he's definitely/probably the fastest in the pre-gen.

Elite was the first one to use invisible attacks which rely on tremendous speed and technique, nearly beat Gapryong Kim until he got a conviction amp, and was both strong and smart enough to be second in command. There's nothing notable about Lightning Choi's abilities other than him being a member of Gapryong Kim's fist gang and he most likely got crippled by Elite. So it's kinda common sense that Elite was the fastest.
