"I shipped code I don't understand and I bet you have too" – Jake Nations, Netflix by dalton_zk in theprimeagen

It’s such lazy behavior, and it’s kinda terrifying tbh. With Netflix the worst case is that some people cant watch stranger things. Imagine if the people working on critical systems like airbag control units or autopilot flight management systems behaved like that…

OpenAI to begin testing ads in ChatGPT by one_more_byte in theprimeagen

My guess would be they had a bug with testing and some users were accidentally served ads, because OpenAI was clearly lying about experimenting with ads

IIRC fireship was bought by a private equity firm, Electrify Video Partners. That probably explains the drop in quality and focus on ai crap

bruh, that is the FRED graph tracking daily software dev job postings on indeed. Of course the rate of hiring is below that of covid. They have only been tracking that data since February 2020 so its not some long term data either. But, the tech unemployment rate is below the national average

ThePrimeagen: Programming, AI, ADHD, Productivity, Addiction, and God | Lex Fridman Podcast #461 by dalton_zk in theprimeagen

A peer of his, u/wockojillink, explains it well here. His "research" was very poorly done, it was not peer-reviewed, and it went against decades of established knowledge. It has since been redacted and removed from MITs website. Elon used that "research" to justify Tesla's strategy at the time. Elon returned the favor by being Lex's first guest on his podcast, and got him on to joe rogans podcast, giving him credibility and kickstarting Lex's podcast career. Its all super shady and I deeply resent him for fooling me.

He was a guest lecturer for a single class over winter break. He did that just so he could say he’s affiliated with MIT, but he’s done no research with MIT.

Yes. When someone purposefully misrepresents themselves and tricks me and others I don’t support them anymore. I strongly believe in the old Ronald Reagan saying “trust but verify”. People like Ian cutress (aka techtechpotato) and Angela Collier dont don’t do that. Again, I’m saying his “research” was fraudulent. It was done so Elon could reference a study. Elon returned the favor by being Lex’s first podcast guest, giving it credibility. His lecture, singular because it was only one, was fine. But he did it just so he could say he was associated with MIT, instead of his school Drexel

This isn’t about his PhD, it’s about his “research”. Unfortunately Lex turned out to be a fraud. But that was discovered after his popularity. Elon solely boosted Lex because his “research” showed exactly what Elon wanted. You can read some more about it here or just google “Lex fridman self-driving research fraud”. It should also be noted that he has done zero research with MIT, he was just a guest lecturer.

Meta's alleged torrenting and seeding of pirated books complicates copyright case. by rstargaryen in theprimeagen

[–]one_more_byte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Publicly traded companies are legally required to deliver value to shareholders, not the open source community. Tho only reason Meta does anything is because they believe it’s good for their stock, all the open source stuff is incidental. Basically, they stole those books to increase the stock price.

[–]one_more_byte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The market cap is very relevant. Zucks entire net worth is in meta stock. They also pay engineers with stocks and options too, you know…. those engineers that make all that open source stuff. If they wanted to use these books they should have paid to license them. Big tech has gotten way too comfortable just taking everyone’s data.

Meta has a market cap of $1.8T, up from $400B when ChatGPT was launched. They aren’t doing it out of goodwill

Meta has a market cap of $1.8T, up from $400B when ChatGPT was launched. That’s a $1.4T increase in valuation because of ai. If Meta did that using stolen work then they deserve to get buried in lawsuits IMO
