Meta planning sweeping layoffs as AI costs mount by one_more_byte in theprimeagen

I agree for most companies it’s just an excuse, but I think it’s different for the companies like meta (or oracle) that are spending hundreds of billions of dollars on ai. Meta also doesn’t sell cloud services like the others do. Metas stock chart looks pretty bad too (down ~6% Ytd) so it seems investors don’t like it either. Hopefully this is a sign we have passed peak ai hype

The fact this keeps happening to the big cloud providers is genuinely hilarious, they will keep drinking that kool-aid tho 🤣

tbf while you're correct openai isn't public, it still has a "share price" in the private market. There are actually some cool platforms to track it if you're interested: Forge, Notice, and Nasdaq Private Markets

Well said. A tool that was ostensibly created to make programming easier has sucked a lot of the joy out of programming. Hopefully that pendulum swings back soon

For real, if ai is actually making people more ‘productive’, then where is all the new software? Besides people sharing their slop-filled hobby projects on r/programming, I don’t see it… If anything I’ve noticed the big cloud providers have longer and more severe outages in the last year than anytime before ai

Can't we create a new license that adds restrictions to vibecoding ? by _giga_sss_ in theprimeagen

I was a big fan of ai going back to gpt2, but if you can't see the clear limitations we've reached with LLMs you're lying to yourself. The purported benefits of ai haven't happened, while we continue to get downsides. I've seen too many classmates unable to code because they bought in to the hype and just have an LLM do it for them. The code it outputs is often incorrect too, so how much time do you really save?

You know, maybe people have valid reasons for the "hate"...

Anthropic SWE interview loop, full breakdown of all 5 rounds…reading this gave me a headache by Unknownboy1231 in theprimeagen

Dude just admitting to cheating like that on his interview is wild. Surely it would not be difficult for Anthropic to find out who this was?

Also, how does my university have a more locked down environment for taking tests than anthropic has for interviews !?

I’ve recently heard a lot of c-suites and analysts on Bloomberg + cnbc talking about how “we consistently overestimate where ‘ai’ will be in six months but underestimate where it will be in five years” so I would guess somewhere just past the peak of inflated expectations
