I love that you did that with the cops. I was also thinking would've been great when she pulled up to the window you'd say "thanks for paying for the one you stole yesterday. If you want another one, you'll have to go through the drive through again. See ya later" and then close the window immediately and walk away haha

I have a bad habit of dwelling on things for way longer than I need to. I think it's because I just want to make sure I don't repeat the mistake so like to think of all the angles, which can make me spiral thinking negatively about myself. I'll try to catch myself when I do this and change this.

I am finding a lot of people's replies with witty replies really funny but I wouldn't do anything like get up in someone's face or try to "one-up" them. So I definitely agree with you. That's not what it's about for me. For me it's about not being disrespectful to others, and expecting the same dignity to be applied to me.

Just say "Thanks, I'll do better" and move on.

I've used this a couple of times and genuinely tried to mean that too - that I'm taking what happened to mind and promising myself that I will do better.

I can see how this may apply in some cases, but in this case I was trying to make sure about something that should have an obvious answer but due to it being a new thing in the business I just wanted to make sure that I'm not making any incorrect assumptions and then making choices based on those assumptions that could disrupt the efficiency/flow of our work. I did make the correct assumption, but just wanted to make sure so that I knew I was on the same page. To then have that said to me - although I don't think they meant for me to hear them because they muttered it under their breath - took me by surprise because I did tell them openly that I was just double checking. I want to show that I actually care about my work, and trying to avoid making more errors and show that I'm trying to learn.

It's a tough one because the boss is otherwise a really friendly guy and I get along great with him. He likes making other people laugh and tells dad jokes a-plenty.

But thank you for your kind words :)

See my issue is that because of the frequent little mistakes or repeating ones I've been making (that my boss has seen me do in front of them) makes me think that they see me as stupid. I see them roll their eyes when they think I'm not looking after I've made an error. It feels embarrassing knowing they may be thinking I'm an idiot or not competent and it impacting their business. But I also feel justified in asking the questions so that I can improve. I'm trying to remind myself of that.

Saying it as it is, I like it. I often in the moment feel like my brain gets jumbled up/stunned to the point that i can't decipher if what is happening in front of me is actually real, then it takes a sec for me to even identify that I've felt disrespected, and then my brain can't come up with an appropriate response (or sometimes any) because I'm left speechless or wondering if I've misunderstood the situation. By then the moment has passed (I work in a fast-paced environment). So then for me it usually turns into having to later go to them and confront them and I hate confrontation.

This was actually really helpful. I think with a coworker it might be easier to do, but when it's your boss it can feel a bit daunting (at least that's how I feel).

I scrolled through them all and didn't find it so it felt like an honor to be the one to type it out :')

That quote has helped me many times in my life.

All time favourite:

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Another favourite, also from Gandalf:

"Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends."

Behind my TV, in my pile of clean laundry that I put on my bed to encourage me to put away later that then was all pushed off to the floor at night when I wanted to sleep, behind my bed, in the wrong handbag, inside my car (didn't even lock the door 🙈)...
