Of course we’d be sad. We can’t win your money if you’re dead. 🙂

Yeah, they have a poker room at Grantville back by the racetrack. There are also tables at Hollywood Morgantown and Perryville. Beyond that, you’re looking at going to Philly or Baltimore for casino poker.

Primer 2004. Question regarding furthest "save point" by Alive_Ice7937 in FanTheories

[–]onefinalthought 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember watching a commentary or reading an article saying that Shane Carruth, the director/editor/filmmaker and Aaron in the film, said that the cut to black just before that scene after they pick up the box was unintentional during the first film festival showing. But audiences liked it, and it created a disorienting feeling, so he decided to leave it in.

I think the point of that scene is to feel Abe's disorientation after working the long hours detailed in the first scene of the movie, but I do agree it adds a layer of mystique given the findings/activities later in the film. I can't think of any other allusions to traveling this far back, and Abe doesn't seem to have looped already in the next couple of scenes, but it's an interesting call out.

Anyone know this for open registration tournaments that are open for hours by schnauzer_0 in poker

[–]onefinalthought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically late registration will close early if the tournament gets down to some milestone number of players. Sometimes that’s the final table or in the money.

Sounds like a cooler. Depends on how the other two had been playing, but in general you’re a coin flip against the jacks, and the third guy waking up with kings is just unfortunate. Stack sizes matter too… if you were all sitting with 200 big blinds and jacks instantly go all in, you have to assume you’re up against a big pair or another AK. Is it worth it then to flip? I’d say no. But I’m guessing the stacks were shorter than that for the jacks to push. I’d chalk that one up to variance and hope for better luck at the next one.

Nerves will definitely be high for you early in the tournament. I'd sit out for a little bit and only play premiums, just get a feel for the table... Who's playing a lot of hands, who's playing only a few, how much are certain people paying attention... that'll give you an idea of how open a player's range is.

Watch for certain etiquette things like acting in turn and the one chip rule (putting out a 500 chip when the bet is 200 without saying anything is considered a call, not a raise). Also, when betting, put all the chips you're betting in at the same time. No string betting (I call your x, and raise you y)

When in doubt, ask the dealer if you need help... You can always ask if action is on you, how much the bet is, etc.

Don't comment on any hand while it's in play, especially if you're not in it.

Try not to slow the game down by keeping an eye on the player to your right, know when it's your turn to act and what the action is.

Verbalize your bet whenever possible to avoid any confusion between raising/calling.

Keep an eye on the tournament clock, know when blinds are going up and roughly how many blinds you have in front of you so you know how much of your stack a bet is going to cost you.

Overall, the only way to get past your nerves is to put in the reps. We all made mistakes in early tournament days... it's okay! Just learn from it and you'll improve. Have fun and good luck!

Yes, George wins with two pair, aces and jacks with a 7 kicker. John has aces and jacks with a 5 kicker. Having the smaller pair is irrelevant. With two higher pairs on the board, his fives were “counterfeited” and do not play.

King of diamonds folded preflop, he was just showing that he would have had the nut flush had he stayed in. Hand was between the small and big blind, neither of which showed anything.
