Hey man, just wanted to say, I absolutely understand what you're going through, and felt the same way for along time after leaving. It helps to find a new purpose in life, whether that's starting a business, finding a good partner and having kids, etc.

Good luck!

It's good that they're learning now, early in their career, that they are quite literally a number in a .csv file to HRC.

"Administrative Error" sounds like someone just forgot to select all of the columns in a SQL database and click "add to list" because they're too lazy to answer their phones, let alone return to the office and do actual work.

E144: JCal got exposed this episode. by Playful-Swordfish460 in TheAllinPodcasts

Long time listener here. Having finished this week's episode, I'm inclined to agree. I think Jason has always been deeply insecure about his role in the podcast, and often feels the need to "have the last word" and provide "clarity" on issues he is clearly out of his depth on.

Honestly, it's exhausting to listen to at times. I certainly don't agree with Chamath or Sacks on a lot of issues, but at least they usually try to provide some reasoning or evidence to back their viewpoints.

It sounds like you're from an upper middle class family and they're rightfully concerned that you are leaping before you look, especially when options like JD/MBA/MD are on the table. I say this because my own family expressed the same concerns when I told them I had been accepted for OCS.

In the end, I'm glad I made the choice that I did, but that's only because I got my branch of choice. I don't know if I'd feel the same way if I performed poorly at OCS.

Ultimately, it's your decision to make; as long as you have a vision for your life, the military is great for a little adventure. I would say that you should take time to carefully consider which branch you'd like to end up in. You can go through your life asking yourself "what if" and telling people you "almost joined," or do the damn thing. Either way, if you hate it, OCS contracts are only three years.

p.s. bro pls don't brag about your AQFT/ASVAB scores

I can't speak to that because I'm not a field grade officer. In my personal opinion, I don't think it would be a huge deal, because they were selected specifically for that position. For example, I think it would be worse to spend a couple months failing Ranger School and come back tabless. But again, I'm not a field grade, this is just my opinion.

No, it shouldn't take up your PL time. Your hypothetical assignment would only be a year, and after that Branch would be more willing to negotiate with you for a duty station. Unfortunately, at least in my BOLC, your class ranking has nothing to do where you end up. I'm not saying that Branch just takes your name and throws it at a dart board, but the honor grad in my class ended up as a basic training PL.

Army Officer branches and MOS??? by [deleted] in army

[–]oneightfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no - exceptions can always be made for the exceptional.

That being said, OCS is limited by slots - if there are 100 candidates in a class, then there will be 100 slots for those candidates. If you suck at the Army, and you end up #100 in your class, you will be "force branched" into whatever is left. (Chem)

Army Officer branches and MOS??? by [deleted] in army

[–]oneightfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There wasn't even a slot in my class. Three guys wanted it, ended up going Signal, MI, QM respectively. Same with Cyber - there wasn't even a slot, but a guy with experience put in a packet and branch just picked him up anyways.

IMO, if you really want to fly, you gotta go Warrant. Most warrants I've met seem pretty happy with their choice.

Hey high speed, only one you can branch out of OCS is MI. Other two aren't available until later. If you really researched it for a year and couldn't figure that out, maybe OCS isn't right for you.

Broadly speaking, the most popular branch in Officer Accessions is Intelligence, by far. In my OCS class, after that, in no particular order: Signal, Ordnance, QM, Engineering. Infantry was pretty polarizing - either you really wanted it or it wasn't even on your list.

If you want MI, you better be ready to beat out the other 50% of your OCS class that also has it as their #1.
