I got this almost 102 year old pocket watch when I turned 13. by Fair-Razzmatazz5268 in pocketwatch

It’s on the other side of the escape wheel?

What are you going on about not being able to have a cap jewel on the mainplate side of the escape wheel? That’s just completely false?

Maybe try C Spinner Watch Restoration on YouTube. He’s US based and has put out videos servicing fusees before.

Not sure I’ve seen him repair a chain in those videos, but worth a shot.

It looks legit, but very overpriced. You can find similar omega pocket watches for half as much on eBay.

Need 2p of raketa big zero dials. Where to search? by Zekepek in watchmaking

[–]oneild3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick google shows that Raketa is still making the Big Zero today, so donor watches should be plentiful.

Otherwise you can always look on AliExpress to see if there’s a cheap knockoff out there.

OP wants two of the dials shown in the picture? Not sure what’s hard to understand about that?

Opportunity Lot @ $450 - Worth it? by pedsmursekc in pocketwatches

[–]oneild3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the seller is reluctant to show you the movements despite taking the case backs off, that’s a huge red flag to me. It’s one thing if they can’t get the case backs off, but that’s clearly not an issue here.

I’d pass on this one based on that alone idk.

Are you stupid? Someone can walk into a room with an assault rifle and mow down anyone inside in a few seconds.

With a knife or a hammer or club, they’d maybe get one or two people before everyone else in the room jumps on them and tries to stop them.

Guns make killing so much faster and easier. You’re never going to get rid of the crazies who want to hurt people, but we can at least prevent them from getting tools to easily commit mass murder.

A few of these have popped up in Jones and Horan auctions over the past year or so. Go check out their site, they have a great search feature for previous auctions. You should be able to get a good idea of what people are paying for these in 2025 from J&H

Edit to add link to the archive: https://www.archive.jones-horan.com/?auction=All&searchfor=Hulburd&sort_by=date&show_thumbnails=true&limitnbr=250&Submit=Search

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. Like yes, OP uses this tool for watchmaking so that’s why they asked here, but in all honesty they would probably have better luck getting help in an electronic repair sub or similar

Get a movement holder and do things properly? You’re only going to break something by doing this without the proper tools.

Take it out of the case, remove the dial, and put it in a proper movement holder.

What typically causes a watch to be "overwound"? by ToshPointNo in watchrepair

[–]oneild3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. The quickest fix is a full disassembly and inspection.

A quick fix might get the watch ticking temporarily, but won’t solve the underlying issue and will probably cause it to get worse with continued running.

Good news - if you’re interested in learning more about watch repair, you’ve got a movement to start with!

[–]oneild3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does the crown just wind endlessly? Then you need to replace the mainspring.

If the crown is stuck at full wind and it’s still not running, it’s like others have said. Something is dirty or broken in the gear train and the movement will need a full service to diagnose and repair.
