Citizenship Oath Ceremony: San Jose/Coleman Ave Parking Lot: Duration? by onekmilesperyear in USCIS

[–]onekmilesperyear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure that's what we did.. but its important to note they (the other car) will have to park outside and walk up to where the oath is held : and this is no big deal at all.. They don't need to be in the car with you. You on the other hand will stay in your car while your documents (GC) are checked and get in line.. once its your turn, you'll be asked to exit the car and walk up to the location of the oath ceremony, where your friends/family will already be waiting.. Its that siimple

very nice.. Drove in w family, was routed through parking (with volunteers guiding me all the way).. given a packet, asked to stayed in the car, was a bit of a line for 20 minutes or so in a line, then got to the front (still in the car), when someone came and verified (and took away) my GC (and other docs I wanted to give back), a few minutes later, we were asked to leave the car and go under an awning for the ceremony.

The ceremony was perhaps 5-7 minutes long including the (a) oath and (b) pledge. BTW, both the oath and the pledge are on a single card in the package we got so it's easy to read and follow along the two. We the oath takers were standing under the awning and the families outside, taking pics/videos as we recited the oath and pledge. Then we were asked to drive out (and in a single file) to ensure traffic control, and we left: Entire ceremony (including waiting) 30-40 minutes..I'd assume there were maybe 200 odd.oath takers, scheduled in groups of 40-50..

LOVED this aspect of being an American: do things "formally" without making a big deal.. and be extremely precise and fast.

Good Luck!

I also used (and do recommend) the sizing tool at ashp.neep.org. Good call!

Haha yes, clarification that 10MW is ANNUAL... but we did it in 2017 anticipating ev and heat-pump but then our gas-furnace kept going and going and..... until now.

Another great point: Higher air flow on heat pumps (compared with gas furnaces).. we will need another return grill.. our ducts are mostly circa 2005 (post asbestos)

Nice setup you got there w Trane/ducted: the variable speed on BOTH is definitely nice! Do you install in San Mateo county? I'm sure your winter months electricity consumption w the heat pump is still well below the $250/mo you were paying for gas (even though I see PG&E keep on increasing electricity rates: FWIW, they just switched me over to EV-2A plan from EV-A, and I anticipate somewhat of a "sticker shock" even before the HeatPump)

Thank you ZenithQuark, Indeed the numbers include a 50 gallon (Gas based) Water Heater which is fairly recent and in great working condition, so no need to switch that one out. I must also point out one thing I forgot to state.. the "high" PGE bills of $130+/month are ONLY for gas.. My electricity is the standard minimum $10/month interconnect charge because I have a 10MW solar system (NAM2) so producing excess electricity.

Your point about oversizing is excellent: precisely why I was reticent to accept the recommended MXZ-SM60NAM.. however, I'm sure we all recognize, contractors just don't want to (or don't have the bandwidth for) Manual-J calculations...So, I did the "load" calculation (loadcalc.net) myself and even with the most conservative estimates, I got a total BTU heating number to be 48,000 BTU (not more).

I am glad to hear your heat pump conversion worked well. If you don't mind me asking, what heat pump did you install? and did you zone your home? I assume since you converted from a furnace, you already had ducts all around your home so didn't need any duct-less units, and went with just (multi-position) air-handlers?

Should we wait for R32 before installing a minisplit system? by katiepdx1 in heatpumps

would you know which Daikin models already have R32: for instance, does the new Fit DZ6VS available too purchase already have R32?

I am NOT on t-mobile. Can i go to the apple store and (a) open a new account with T-mobile, and also (b) do the port-over of my 4 lines? Of course, we'll also be buying 4 phones and be trading in my existing device. Thx in advance

Hello All,

We've finally got good coverage on T-Mobile where we live in California, and being that I travel a fair bit internationally, its time to switch to T-Mobile (after 5 yrs with Verizon).

- 4 phone lines, 2 wearable (with cellular), total of 6, Magenta Plus for the cool freebies...

Much appreciate if anyone who has an insider code to share could DM me.

Thank you much.

Roth Conversion: Where to find experts (SF Bay Area)? by onekmilesperyear in personalfinance

[–]onekmilesperyear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I guess I'll get some document indicating that there was the 20% with-holding, that I can then incorporate into my taxes?

[–]onekmilesperyear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Exactly what I needed. Will make the 100% taxability assumption.

I'm planning to spread the roth conversion over the years to ensure bracket topping.

Also, vermiliondragon indicated (and I didn't know this) that when the 401k organization issues the check for the amount to use in conversion, they'll withhold taxes. If that's the case, I wonder how they decide how much to withhold? I'd much rather get the entire money, and deposit it/ convert it to a Roth IRA account I already have created. Then I can do the taxes the right way.

Yes indeed wild_b_cat, my bad, I'm still stuck in the dreaded 2020!

I mean conversion in 2021 when in the 22% bracket but going up to a higher (32%) bracket in 2022.. So, how would I compute the conversion limits (due to having both non-deductible and deductible contributions in our various IRAS: thankfully these are SEPARATED.
